Games In Safe Mode?

Hi, I have WinXP and I noticed that a lot of unnecessary things load when I start my computer, and that must slow down my gameplay somewhat. Is it a good idea to play games in safe mode for this reason? I have not tried it yet.

I suppose based on the view that it doesn't load many things, it is a great idea. of course, the fact that many of those things include things like your driver for your video card, and soundcard are not running, I would say it's a pretty bad idea. Unless you like playing Windows Solitare or Hearts. I mean, how many other games look good and are fun to play at 640x480x16? If you are talking about a "slow" of a few frames per second, my advice is to get over it. If you mean a significant slowdown of some kind, you can use mscnfg to remove some things from startup. That or uninstall some things that startup. If they are "unnecessary" then remove them. What are your specs? What software are you running? A little more info and maybe people can help with more suggestions.

Here are some links to sites that can help you find things on your tasklist that don't need to be there. I set up a special user account on my box just for gaming and another for general purpose.

Nearly every "extra" that loads runs at a low priority so it won't make too much difference but...

Run MSConfig for an easy way to disble unwanted services and startup items.
