So do you guys think games will ever get to that price? Doom 3 is selling preorder for $60.00. Lets hear from everyone what they think is $100.00 buck coming down the road someday?

My friend paid $89.99 for Final Fantasy 7 when it came out at Toys R Us. It was the only place with-in 100 miles that had it in stock.

So do you guys think games will ever get to that price?
Of course. Aside from inflation you also have collector's editions that are becoming more and more expensive.

never talked bout your age, now u just admited to the AT world that your old
hahahahahahah

onza

it was an example of what time does

$60 doesn't seem high as far as PC games I've bought recently. Heck, I bought the Collector's Edition of Warcraft III for $75. BUT it came with some cool stuff so it was worth it to me. Came with this really big full color art book, definitely the best thing that comes in the Collector's Edition.

Try www.newegg.com for some cheap games. I looked and their prices seemed to be $20-30 less than stores like Babbage's or EB, gonna buy my games there from now on.

Exactly, so when does SS3E come out?[/quote]

Dunno but when it does I am all over it. Hella lot of fun for 20 bucks.

😀

most places UK selling Doom 3 preorder for approx usual price. Anyone charging you more for the pleasure of guarenteeing them sales is ripping you off.

Presuming inflation does keep positive, and barring some new technology or marketing efforts lowering the cost per game, games will inevitably reach $100. The upside is you all should be earning approximately as much more.

Most UK games are LESS now than what they seemed to be a few years back.
Online they used to be something like £28-£33, now they're more like £25-£28, not a huge difference, but still a difference.

yeah but i think thats more due to there being far more people buying them online, in shops theyre about the same.

$100 isn't that much of a stretch. i remember begging my mom for some genesis games that were $80, that was before the $50 limit was put in place. just grab and OLD gaming magazine, they usually have ads for stores selling genesis or game gear games for like $70 or $80.

In addition to Serious Sam, Tribes 2 is another bargain. I think it is only a measly $10 or $20 now for a kick@ass game I've spent quite a lot of time playing. So much to do in that game. I got it for $20 and that was a long time ago.

Inflation, warez and increased complexities of games all push up the prices. In ten years time I wouldn't be at all surprised to pay $100 for a game.

Of course to avoid such high prices you can always wait 1-2 years after a game is released and pick it up at mid range/bargain prices.

Doom 3 is retailing that high because id software knows people will pay that, just like RtCW. Doom 3 probably won't have much replay value (there will probably be MP, but for fullblown MP, id will want people buying Quake4, just like UT2k3 and Unreal 2), so by having the price higher, they can make more money from the initial buyers.

Avault.com had a great article about game pricing a couple monthes ago. Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo SE was the most expensive video game at its time at $75 for a console game! But that trend obviously didn't continue, because its unfeasible to think that people will continuely shell out that money. For AAA games like Diablo2 and Warcraft3 $55 is a good retail price.

Games that want to exceed the ~$55 price range really need to be collector's editions that give some added value.
