no, like These.

although those are outdated, hmm, i guess drivers have improved alot...

You think? Posting benchmarks that are over a year and a half old is a great way to prove your point.

<- Still runs XP due to laziness. Next time it pukes and I have to reinstall Ill move to vista64.

I got into PC gaming back in 93/94 and every year some people have been lamenting the death of the PC and PC gaming. Its no truer now than it was then. Sure you have some years with fewer good games than other years but its mostly cyclic considering good games take 18 - 36 months to make. Every time I see a post or hear someone say PC gaming is dead or dying I just roll my eyes and give a chuckle.

I have 8 gigs of ram, had to ditch XP for Vista 64bit...as well as the DX10 features will be nice once they are avail from a lot more gaming companies.

Foot in mouth. 😛

No, the OP said Vista bombed at launch. And it did. Badly. No industry mags or experts recommended upgrading, sales were horrible, third party drivers were abysmal, MS extended XP support for another year in the face of the public complaints, SLI didn't work, DX10 even now less than 15% of people run, etc.

Has Vista improved? Vastly. Drivers have caught up, SP1 has been released, and now it's a workable OS. A year after launch. But by any objective measure, it bombed at launch.

You were one of the lucky ones, then.

Vista laid a big fat egg. Everyone knows this including Microsoft. Happily, the issues were largely fixed with SP1. And I'm running Vista 64 bit on my new desktop and laptop. I'll keep XP on my old box.

I know quite a few people that've had no issues with vista... myself included on three machines. Now, problematic hardware (and/or non-MS drivers)? I've had quite a bit of that. Although, my friend was complaining to me this morning about his Vista install constantly crashing, but it seems he only had problems when he brought it back to college where they have this invasive program they require you to install... which could be the source.

Oh and WotLK will drive huge sales for PC gaming in November.

Err, WoW is not an RPG. There's barely only RPing in it. If you enjoy the social aspect, fine, but don't call it in RPG. Its insulting to real RPGs everywhere.

It's as much of an RPG as Final Fantasy 😛. Also, there's nothing wrong with WoW, but the obsessive compulsive tend to want to finish quests more and just keep on going... "there's just one more left!" I can tell you that I intended to go to bed early last night, but getting my Death Knight to 60 was something I had to do!

I bought Race Driver: GRID yesterday. When will I ever learn???

I still haven't even played COD4 because I'm playing Spore. In fact I didn't even have time yesterday to do any gaming at all.. sigh.

And you guys have reminded me of about 3-4 games I still want. eek!

I was commenting in regard to videogames101 saying that Vista, in its latest and current form, was still below XP as far as gaming expectations are concerned. As stated above, Vista is not a concern for performance loss when playing video games.

I agree with your last paragraph.

I've been playing on Vista since RC1 and have not had any problems.

As for games, I barely have enough time to get through half of what I have. The problem is I am still quite addicted to TF2, so when I have free time to play a game, it is usually that one, or Combat Arms now everyone once in a while.

So many games, so little time.

OK, you guys convinced me. I'm going to get 2 more GB of DDR2-1066 and Windows Vista Ultimate W/SP1 Upgrade and give it a whirl. Just one (stupid?) question: is Direct X 10.1 backward compatable with all other versions of Direct X (5,6,7,8,9)? Thank you.🙂

It has DX9 emulation at minimum. Older games have varied compatibility with Vista, but usually compatibility mode takes care of most problems.

Been using Vista since RC1. Just moved to 64-bit 3 weeks ago and very little in the way of hickups.
Played on Vista just great:

WoW
Mass Effect
Quake Wars
UTIII
Morrowind
Oblivion
NWN2
