Games as Movies...

Most haven't been done very well but if YOU were in charge of making a movie based on a game, which one would you choose?

I'd have to go with Arkham Asylum or The Force Unleashed...

Out of the millions of games out there, you choose two that already have dozens of movies released for their respective IP's?

Half-life 2. Great characters, great plot, good dialog, and creativity out the wazoo. As they say in Hollywood, "It's a movie!" Valve has also made it clear they won't allow anyone else to make a movie based on the game so it won't get screwed up by someone looking to make a quick buck.

haha, yeah, and they were movies before the game even came out.

Sure, but the games were beyond what we have seen in the movies...

AA gives an in depth look into Gotham...

Unleashed fills in the gaps between the New and Original SW trilogies...

Boderlands would be a cool movie as well...

Indiana Jones meets Mad Max...

Out of all the star wars games, KOTOR 1 had the best story imo. A movie based on that would have been better than any of the prequels.

The problem I have, is all of the games with the most interesting stories and characters to me, would have to be butchered. Translating the same depth and detail of a 40+ hour game experience into a 2 or 3 hour movie would be impossible.

Games don't have 40 hours of story though, usually you get a couple of hours of story and the rest is just time spent killing or exploring.

Mass Effect (the first, not 2), and on the plus side most of the work is already done for you!

(that's not a knock, I absolutely loved ME)

Edit: And for those that love this stuff, there will be a Dragon Age movie/web-series this summer starring Felicia Day!

That depends highly on the game. Not to mention that exploring is extremely valuable to the overall impression of the story in most good RPG's. The world your experiencing, the NPC's your talking to, the books your reading within that world, everything builds up the impression of a stronger main story line than actually exists. If you broke an RPG down into a movie format, more often than not it would be mess, with about as much depth as a wet napkin. That is why I don't really have much to choose.

Some kind of Fallout movie could be entertaining. Not necessarily based on any one game in particular, but the setting with the Vaults and emerging into a wasteland with robots, ghouls and supermutants.

I thought Wing Commander would make a good movie, but they messed that up pretty good.

Resident Evil is another one that would translate well to the big screen, and they actually did do a pretty good job of making movies from that game series.

Mass-effect had a nice story behind it, and would probably make a good movie.

Command and Conquer is another game that might make a good movie.

I could see an interesting movie made from Syndicate as well.

Assassins Creed would make a good movie. Uncharted could be good, and they are making it. Unfortunately it is going to be absolutely butchered.
