Games Artifacting / Weird Dead Pixels?

I've been having two possibly linked problems:
1) I sometimes get artifacts in games (CSS, AOE3, BF2.. etc) - Whenever I alt-tab out to check the temp. settings, they are usually around 63-70c (70 tops)

2) I seem to be getting what look like dead pixels on my Hyundai L90D+. However, they only appear on black backgrounds. There is one that is always in the same place, however - if I leave my computer and come back with the xp screen saver on, the XP logo of the screensaver is surrounded by little red dots. This behavior leads me to believe that they aren't dead pixels, rather.. the video card.

Any ideas? I'm about to bust it open and clean it out, I shall return.

different drivers and settings versus standard options and user-adjusted tweaks

OS environment, old or fresh, do a full reformat
--service packs and patches

underlocking/OC and heat problems that must be resolved regardless of factory defaults from the distributors/manufacturers

video game and any required patching

possible effects of 3rd party software or unknown application interference

swap between generic video card and different monitor

RMA, and if the problem still persists, get your damn money back

Well, the zalman was a bit dusty, but nothing ridiculous. After a fresh install, everything seems to be fine, haven't gamed yet, but theres none of the 'dead pixels'.

Keep on top of the video card. Those are symptoms for me that the video card is on its way out. Random artifacts in games consistantly is a sign it's about to go.

I've lost a 6600 and a 7800GT over my life, and both had those symptoms before it was about to go.
