Games and Win 2K/ Win ME

Hey... I'm thinkin' of upgrading my os from win 98 to either win 2k or win me... I'm heavy into gaming and heard there could be some conflicts with the new OS's....
anyone know which one is the best to get?...
my system:
AMD 1.0 ghtz, overclocked to 1.33 ghtz
MSI KT133a Turbo m/b
256 pc133 ram
Radeon 32 mb video

Hmmm... so Win ME is BETTER???? ... and win 2K you say is getting better... so if I went out and got Win2K.. are you saying that their are patches to make it better or the new copies are actually better... if I went to like fry's and got win2K is there a chance I'd get an older copy and be in trouble... or should I just get WinME and not worry????
HELP?????

I don't suppose you should have to put up with comments like that. Not in the least bit helpful. WinME doesn't really Suck. I have it, albeit slightly slower (not visibly) than Win98SE, WinME IMO is your choice. But having not had Win2000 I cannot be 100% sure. Games ARE slower in Win2000 from what I can gather from reading various reviews. It's NT5 remember and not really for games. WinME is ultimately Win98 version 3 so you won't really benefit that much in all honesty.

If it's imperative you get it now, you still have a choice to make, but remember WinXP will be out soon. This OS is supposed to combine both the OS together to get one good one. I would however point out there will be 2 versions. WinXP and WinXP Pro if I'm not mistaken. I don't know what the difference is other than support for SMP is only supported by the Pro version. (Perhaps my next OS upgrade, dunno yet, i'll wait for the benchmarks and Non BETA reviews.)

Decision decisions. Wait a few months and see what gives.

😉

Sorry if I sounded like a prick. When I had Win ME installed it sucked. Most games and programs ran considerably slower then if they where installed in Win98SE. I am now running Win2k and all games and appz are running great. If I am losing anything in performance then Win2K makes up for it in stability..

IamDavid - Fair play to you. 😉 I havn't had anywhere near the same problems as you. Mind you mines an original and not Warez. Just pulling ya chain. 😉

well thank you both so much for responding... but as you can imagine... now I'm even more confused... I think I'll just stay with Win98 for now.... unless anyone can convince me of different.... i guess I'm just like a woman... I want change.... so I want a different looking O/S.. plus I like the way the little windows fade in and out on ME (i think) when you right click your desktop... trivial I know...

Win98Se is fine for gaming. Stick with it. It has driver support for almost al hardware, where win2K still has driver problems big time(Sounblaster Live! 5.1 is a big one). If you are just gaming and surfing the net you are fine. If you are doing programming or using high end apps professionaly, then you should look at Win2k for stability. I am currently running win2K and I am going to go back to Win98SE because I am mainly gamin on my Pc with some small amount of MS Office use for school.

just my 2 cents😀
