I'd love to help scratch that building itch, but after reading a horror story or two, supporting business servers on your lonesome is a PITA. Not impossible, as you can buy duplicate parts for backup, use hardware RAID, etc, etc, but is it worth the time and headache when the goal is to minimize downtime? Heck, I'd think a buisness would quickly do away with you if they find you costing them inordinate amounts of time.

I have yet to build my first desktop, but even I know that Servers != Gaming PCs. Let the giants handle the server support, they have entire teams on tap for that stuff.

I'll throw another vote in for "buy it OEM". From the sounds of it, you're not going to run into any performance issues, even with the cheapest options from Dell. What you will be getting in return is the peace of mind that you'll never have to spend the time (remember, time=money) on support of your hardware - that comes with the sticker price.

Dell support is also excellent. Something breaks? Call them and you'll usually have a replacement part at your door the next morning. Yes, it's a bit more cost upfront, but even two to three years down the road you'll have the same service experience as you will on day 1.
