A combo of Windows 98SE and XP, yes you need both to be compatible with as many games as possible as not all games run on XP.

There's a compatibility mode in XP that allows you to run 98 only games.

AOE3 does not work on W2K.

This is a MS game on a currently supported MS OS, nice huh? I'm not sure if any other new games have this limit, so YMMV.

XP is the obvious choice unless you alread own 2K.

Getting two OS's and going to the trouble of dual booting with them just to play games with vesa graphics is a waste of time.

There are plenty of other games that won't work in XP and don't have VESA graphics, one example is NFS4...

No support, games aren't designed for it, not 100%. You are crazy if you really think that's the best.

And there's this fact that Bill Gates lied when he said WinXP would run everything Win9X does, because it clearly doesn't... Compatability mode or not, there are still a large number of games that do not run on WinXP no matter what you do.

That is why I dual-boot for WinME and WinXP, so I can play EVERY game, not just the ones that work with XP.
