Kudos to Ubisoft, thanks to AMD driver team too. Game don't favors any GPU vendor. But technically is a tad outdated.

Thanks for sharing your experiences with R6S, your post has made me interested in picking it up. How are the shooting mechanics? Some games are a ton of fun but sometimes the hit detection is wonky or it just doesn't play well.

Rainbow Six games have never had cutting edge graphics. Nobody should buy R6 for its graphics, but rather for the guns, gear, tactics, and teamwork. It is a blast with proper teamwork!

This is a high-realism FPS that strives for realistic graphics. Part of the reason Rainbow Six: Vegas was such a hit was that it had a dark, realistic graphical style that remained reasonably realistic in gameplay unlike CoD. The AI was always incredibly accurate and unpredictable which means a teammate and/or patience are necessary.

The R6 series has a relatively small fanbase with a pretty small budget provided from Ubisoft. This was supposed to be a sequel to R6: Vegas 2 (2008!) that was canceled in 2013. This is also the first modern R6 game that isn't on Unreal Engine. I think this game looks pretty good considering how this series was hanging on by a thread for the past 5 years.

It isn't fair to discount this game due to having dated graphics.

Good post!

I should have clarified, when I discuss technical merits of the game and often in a critical tone (since I've been very disappointed with the state of technical PC graphics in recent years), it has nothing to do with gameplay or passing on the game for its technical merits ;)

It is a bit frustrating though since we are close to 2016 and some modern PC games look worse than Crysis Warhead, a game that came out in 2008. With modern game engines like Frostbite, CryEngine, UE4, id Tech 6, it's hard to imagine how it's possible to make such outdated games unless budget is the #1 priority. It seems the target are current gen consoles and very few studios decide to spend extra resources to go beyond that. It's understable but frustrating. Xbox 360/PS3 generation wasn't even that bad.

That's basically the reality of things now. The budgets are super high now as it is, the PC version doesn't sell enough to justify much. The special things you see in the ports is done by nVidia or AMD. Even basic things like simple optimization the developers don't bother unless the GPU manufacturer does it for them.

Sad but true.

Ya, I did notice that. Even for next year, I do not see it changing. Looking at this list of games, whatever ones from that list make their way to PS4, chances are they are targeting PS4 as the max. The main benefits of the PC versions will come from higher textures, resolutions and frame rates and of course mouse/keyboard input options. It's hard to imagine that 95%+ of PC games from now on until PS5/XB2 will just be PS4 console ports. That sucks if true.

They need to start giving every PC game options for modding then. If the developers/publishers do not want to put the resources into PC games, let the PC gaming community take care of it! ;)
