Performance is pretty clean in this game. First Ubi title that works properly in a while. There is also a preset setting labeled 'nvidia' in the game that I assume enables certain features otherwise not available.

Seeing as the 4670k is ahead of 4770k & 2500k is ahead if 2600k.

I think we can assume that the game prefers Real cores to HyperThreaded cores.

Am I seeing this right ? R9 285 beating GTX 770, R9 280X beating GTX 780 and R9 290 beating GTX 780 Ti across all resolutions. If these benchmarks are indicative of actual game performance then my question is "Is Nvidia holding back Kepler performance (in drivers) to sell more Maxwell cards." ? I am going to wait and see if other websites benchmarks agree. But this is quite embarassing for Nvidia Kepler cards like GTX 780 Ti , GTX 780, GTX 770 especially in a TWIMTBP title.

IMO, these day-one benches by GameGPU aren't that valuable. Crossfire doesn't work yet, and the Kepler cards clearly need a driver update. The 770 is underperforming an HD7950, and the 780 Ti is below a 290. Even Maxwell isn't that great - a 980 5% faster than a 290X? I don't think so.

I'll have to try out the "NVIDIA" setting. As I was playing, I thought everything looked a little too dark.

SLI seems to be working here, did the new driver allow SLI to work for you Groove?

It could be, you know... AMD doing a good job.
Actively via driver/Ubi collaboration, or accidentally because game suits their hardware.
And nvidia/Ubi focusing on new cards is not that unthinkable either. Something simple as that. Instead of... conspiracy

Nvidia seems to be damned no-matter whether their cards perform or underperform 😱

Yes, new driver has SLI working well for me. The transparent foliage bug went away with a restart. In shadowed areas things look too dark to me as well, seems to be related to the ambient occlusion settings.

I still have a problem where I have a black bar on the bottom of my screen, but not on the top. I believe normally there is supposed to be a bar on the top and bottom. I'm guessing it is a problem specific to my resolution.

The other thing I find is the mouse feels pretty sluggish even though I have acceleration disabled.

The game looks really good. The graphics, particularly textures, are really impressive.

"Nvidia" setting looks bad. HBAO+ breaks the game lighting for some reason, messes everything up.

SSBC is decent enough in the meantime while they fix that.

the review is using the GeForce Game Ready 344.75 WHQL drivers which is the recommended farcry 4 drivers.

As for AMD they have posted in their site that they are working with Ubisoft to fix the issue with CF.

http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMDCatalyst14-11-2-BetaWINReleaseNotes.aspx

"The AMD CrossFire™ profile for Far Cry 4 is currently disabled in this driver while AMD works with Ubisoft to investigate an issue where AMD CrossFire™ configurations are not performing as intended. An update is expected on this issue in the near future through an updated game patch or an AMD driver posting."

Eh, I prefer the brighter, sunny look. Which is a reason I think I'll like Far Cry 3's setting better. Less mountains and jungle, more beaches and sun. 😎

I noticed this as well and I feel like this is what is happening. If you look at games released prior to Maxwell's launch performance amongst nvidia's lineup is consistently 980>780ti=Titan Black>970=Titan>780. Now it feels as if Kepler is being ignored on the optimization front.

Perhaps because performance differences were so marginal amongst all those cards and it helps to push the new ones ? :\ It could also be a gameworks optimization 'tweak' because if you ignore games like Unity and FC4, recent games still show that same sort of performance lineup we're used to seeing.

Yeah AMD still has Farcry 4 issues with CF on which they are working with Ubisoft.

This is a trend I observed over the last 1 to 1.5 month in all the latest titles. R9 290X beats GTX 780 Ti consistently in the recent releases while GTX 970 also beats GTX 780 Ti. Its as if Nvidia forgot that they sold these GTX 780 Ti cards as the top GPU for a year. My guess is they are just trying to get the GTX 780 / GTX 780 Ti owners to upgrade to GTX 970 / GTX 980 using such questionable tactics.

Nvidia seems to be damned no-matter whether their cards perform or underperform 😱

Nvidia flagship GPU buyers are damned if this is how Nvidia treats them. 😀

Well, that's fine, but shadowed areas tend to be darkened until you can't see anything.

Here's a comparison someone linked to me:

HBAO+ is just way too dark, for some reason the candles stop casting light.

And it's not like SSBC is bad either, the quality is super good. Not as good as HBAO+ when it's working properly but better than a lot of other game's AO. And the performance is stellar, too.

yeah. its true. the recent games don't reflect this order.

this is what I am thinking as the primary reason.

I noticed this too and i bet everyone else did. I feel for 780Ti, 780 & Titan owners because they paid top dollar just to see second rate driver optimizations now. Nvidia is clearly focusing on Maxwell arch but i do understand them, it is after all their future tech and they're going all outn with it.

I'm willing to bet that is before the day-one patch, which had issues with shadows being way too dark.

Edit - Yeah, those screenshots are from 3 days ago. Probably before the patch.

That may be, I'll have to see for myself.

I like HBAO+ so I hope it's not screwy when I play the game.

In Nvidia's tweaking guide SSBC compared favorably to HBAO+ so it's still a decent alternative. Even if HBAO+ implementation is bad in this game I am glad developers are taking AO seriously, and not just when AMD and Nvidia are slipping them cash.

770 losing to a r270? 980 only beating a 290x by 5%??? Either AMD is working overtime and more overtime, or Nvidia needs some driver optimizations for this game.

Regardless, performance looks decent but could be better, IMO.
