Gamecube sales triple

Since they changed the price to $99. Guess this was a good move by Nintendo to keep themselves alive in the console wars. Discuss!

Obviously, it was a good move. Even if they lose revenue on the console sales, they are increasing their install base to somewhat respectable numbers so 3rd party developers etc. will have to regard the Cube as a legit competitor in the console wars.

That is, until the Xbox and PS2 cut their prices and people stop buying GameCubes again. 😛

Neither Sony nor MS could afford it in the long run. I am guessing neither can Nintendo, and this is a somewhat desperation move. If they get a large installed base, they can keep GC alive for the time being but at what cost?

It was a good move. Even if Sony and MS drop their prices to $150, GC sales will still be super strong since it's (barely) under the century mark in price. I had one and traded it for a XBox, but at $99 I'd get another one

Many more people will buy one now that the GC has been craked. I didn't buy a dreamcast until the boot loader came out.

They'll have to do it with software and accessories. I do own a Cube and I must say there has been an almost endless string of great Cube-exclusive games/content since I bought it, and there are more on the way (i.e. Mario Kart, Rogue Squadron III). Friends of mine have Xbox and PS2 and they also have their advantages but the Cube is a viable contender with great games IMO.
