Or you could show up to Frys the morning of, and get it for 199.

whats with these bundle things anyways.. do they want use to see a huge bill and turn away. For 600 you could have a computer that can design and make these games with 10x the power.

judging from the japanese launch, these will be easy to get at a brick and mortar store: they had 7 or 800,000, and only sold like 300,000 the day of launch.

The interest in Nintendo's systems have been much greater in the U.S. than in Japan since N64 came out. I'd guess that would explain much of the Japanese launch.

All I know is every major .dot company that's offered a GC bundle so far is selling out within minutes of offering it. If you got to a B&M the morning that it's offered for sale, I'd say you have a decent chance (remember, on 11/18 we're nearing Thankgiving & the Black Friday Christmas rush). If you wait a couple of days or weeks...I'm not so sure.

Wasn't the day of launch like september 11th or 12th? I know it was around the 11th. Perhaps the world climate caused people to think about other things besides video games. Also I have heard that the sales in Japan have been pretty good since the launch. A steady stream of sales going on.

I don't have the link handy, but there is a Japanese gaming web site (in English) that tracks the number of consoles sold. The old school PS2 is still outselling the new hot Gamecube per week. Watch Nintendo do a Sega and concentrate just on games.

On selling in Japan, from Nintendo's own webpage http://www.nintendo.com/corp

Nintendo GameCube makes "solid" debut in Japan
Video Business, September 24, 2001
Nintendo GameCube launched in Japan, selling a total of 360,000-400,000 software and hardware units combined in its first weekend at stores. Some retailers experienced long lines lasting up to three hours and prompt sell-outs while others received steady traffic of consumers looking for the console. In early estimates, "Luigi's Mansion" sold 100,000 units.

Wow, waiting in lines up to 3 hours! What a mad rush that must of been.
