GameCube lagging behind in games?

Just bought a GameCube for my younger bro for X-mas. However, it seems like the number of games currently out for it is a distant third compared
to X-Box and PS2. PS2 has the most games and X-box is seriously catching up ( observation based solely on the titles available on my local CompUSA,
CircuitCity, Walmart and Target) but GC has less than half the games of X-box. I'm not too updated on news about the GC and I was wondering
whats coming up in terms of game titles for the platform.

I've noticed that as well. Flippin through the latest issue of Gamepro (Free magazine courtesy of Hot Deals baby!!), the Xbox had 3-4 pages of previews, whereas the GC had 1-2.

Compared to the 2 games the N64 had for launch, I'd say Nintendo is finally learning its lesson - to an extent anyway. More would be better, sure, but 20 or so games by the end of the year is plenty for now.

Lagging behind? Well if you consider 20 or so titles to the Xbox and its 25 or so games
"a distant third". Of course don't fall for the quantity is better than quality trick.
Not every game is worth the discs they were pressed on...

As for future titles for the GC platform, the outlook is rosy. The combination of top-tier
multiplatform games from proven developers + Nintendo can't be beat. PS2 already has
and will continue to build a great collection of games. The Xbox library will also receive
ports of the major releases and a few exclusives. Most of the original content is
unfortunately going to come from unknown developers... unless M$ goes on an even
bigger buying spree than they're on now.

I wouldn't say it's really behind. Nintendo made it clear from the start, less quanity and more quality. Most of the GC games are pretty good. You don't seen much crap out for it, just to be there. XBox has some great games too, around the same amount as the Cube. But the XBox has much more "junk games" out for it. I guess it's all in perception.

Not even close dude. The PS2 has been out for a year, the XBox nor Gamecube arn't even close.

the ps2 has more crappy titles out than any other new platform. good games are finally starting to show up for it. maybe thats what is meant by xbox catching up. but in that case the cube is right there too.

You mean there are 25 titles for the GC? Where can you buy these, the number of games for sale on stores is far below that,
I can even count them on my fingers.

GC has about 15 titles right now. Last I checked Xbox has about 30+.

Though about 8 of them are real lame duck titles and need to be burnt on site.

PS2 has about 200+ titles the vast majority are average with about 10-15 high quality titles.

GCs quality of gameplay is higher though the only game I really want is rouge squadron. All the others can be left for the 5 year olds 😀

The Xbox has a ton of PC ports coming to that system! I have a PC that I game on, so the Xbox is out of the question. Also, the Game Cube has much more exclusive titles than the Xbox. The only game that I'm drawn to at this moment is Halo. And that will be on the PC within a few months. I'm getting the Gamecube, as Nintendo has shown that they have a proven track record. Microsoft? I'll wait it out. If they are still around and are kicking ass in a year or two, then I might buy an Xbox. But until then it's PC and Gamecube all the way! 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂😎

No I said about 20. I'll try to dig up a list of games which have shipped. Have you considered
that perhaps all the games have just sold out? 😉

What is this "Hot Deals" that you speak of? 😕

Heh heh, your inexperitence in the console world shows 🙂
PS2 wins because it's been out more than a year. It took INSANELY long for any worthy titles were made! X-Box is full of ultimately crap titles except for what is also available on PS2 & Cube. The GameCube does only have a few games, but I'll take Smash Bros & Rogue Leader over anything X-Box has. Only time will tell if it will ever get as many good games as the PS2, but knowing Nintendo's history of *THE BEST* games (Note, not the "MOST"), and PS2s relatively small amount of descent titles, it won't be long. As for X-Box's titles looking comparative to PS2: That's EVERYTHING X-Box has. Most PS2 titles have come and left the shelves after a year's time. PS2 FAR outnumbers X-Box and has both of them trailing in the dust. Just thought I'd throw that in...

Yea, they said that about N64 too and look what happened.

yeah, just looking at ign, the xbox has 34 reviews, with an average of 7.6. a high of 9.7 and a low of 2.0
the gamecube has an average of 8.15 for 17 games, a high of 9.6 and a low of 6.3

ill stick with the PC 🙂

but really, who needs more than 17 games right now? most you could possibly need (IMO) would be 10 or so right now. just pick the machine that has the best games long term and that you like, not the ones with the best games now.

The only issue I have with fewer games is that you have FEWER choices. Sure, they may be better games but variety is important. The number of games
made for a console is also one indicator how well the platform will do in the future.

That was largely due to third party gripes about the cost/space available on the
cart medium. As a result Nintendo became the primary supplier of games for their
own box (not that that was bad thing mind you, but some people won't play games
made by Nintendo). Now that Nintendo has gotten with the times and started
using cheap optical discs, the floodgates have opened so to speak.

Yeah.. It seems that way, but when you look at the games, there are so many games that you want on the GameCube. It's a different feeling with the Xbox.. Perhaps you can list more but here would be my lists:

Nintendo
Luigi's Mansion
Wave Race
Super Smash Brothers
Rouge Leader
Pikmin
Soul Calibur 2

Microsoft
Halo
Project Gotham Racing
Dead or Alive 3
Oddworld (perhaps)

Nintendo already has a bunch of "want games" out. And note my list doesn't include games that are on both consoles. And the breakdown for following months according to Electronic Gaming Monthly, January 2002 edition, the results:

December '01
GameCube: 13 Games
Xbox: 14 Games

January '02
GameCube: 4 Games
Xbox: 2 Games

February '02
GameCube: 3 Games
Xbox: 6 Games

Wow, the Xbox has two more games than the GameCube. The PS2 has a library of over 200+ games along with original Playstation games.. It's a four lap race, Sony has completed one lap and is halfway through another. The GameCube and Xbox are only finished with 25% of their first lap.. It will end up being a VERY close race at the end.

I can think of maybe Silent Hill 2... although the Xbox edition is really nothing
more than a spruced up PS2 version. (kinda like Tony Hawk 2x)

Like I said, there are lots of unknown and unproven developers on the Xbox.
(who or what the hell is Tremor Entertainment? why should I care about New Systems?)
