I'm attempting to finish some of my older favorite Gamecube games that I never finished. Unfortunately, even through the official Component cable, the picture quality is kind of lousy on my Panasonic LCD. I've also bought a vga box to use on my CRT monitor, but you could argue that the picture is even worse for some reason.

Is my only option to seek out a tube tv from god knows where? I'm hoping that's not the only choice, does anyone here play gamecube on an lcd? If you do, or have any tips, let me know. Thank you.

I run my 'cube and Wii through an upscaler, and it does pretty well for them. That might be an option if you're in the market for a new receiver.

What do you mean by lousy? I don't recall any image quality problems playing cube games on my 40 inch LCD. Just wondering if it's lousy because you're expecting it to look better than it does.

Are you sure progressive mode is active? When booting a game that supports progressive, you have to hold the b button down until it asks you if you want progressive mode. After that, games should automatically ask you if you want progressive mode without holding down the b button. It sucks the Resident Evil remake doesn't support progressive.

I feel like I tried holding down b and nothing happened. I don't think Tales of Symphonia even supports progressive. I'll have to try again.

When I say lousy, I guess it's because the picture is noticeably worse than on a tube tv.

Ok, that figures. I don't know if I need/want a receiver. I use th tv speakers, I don't have an audio setup. What does a receiver with a good upscaler cost? Thanks.

I play my Gamcube on my 50" Samsung DLP via S-Video and it looks fine. I actually think it looks pretty decent.

I do have a question though. If I got a Gamecube that has the digital out port on it and got a component cable - would it look even better?

Hell yes...I know for a fact component looks better. It makes a solid difference and is very noticeable on games with a sharp visual style like Zelda Wind Waker (the best game on the system) ;)

I played SSBB Wii on a friend's (40"+?) LCD HDTV and it looked like shit (pixel interpolation and jaggies FTL). It looked great on my CRT HDTV though.

The gamecube is going to look crappy on an LCD because of the interpolation, and exactly how crappy will depend on how crappy your TV's scaler is. I suppose you can try to find some sort of receiver for your LCD that has a better scaler, but you could end up with a worse one or one with little improvement.

Running 'cube games in progressive makes a MASSIVE difference, and unfortunately not all of them support it. From what I recall, tales of symphonia was one that did not.

Might as well ditch it and go play Eternal Darkness instead, seeing as its the best game of all time.

Even the games that don't support progressive look better. I had black crush and washed out colors with S-video, and got a massive improvement with component.
