Reader question:

why doesn't nintendo be more aggresive? i'm getting sick of this. will nintendo have any surprises for us soon? please tell me!

IGN's response:

Well, Nintendo is trying, even if we don't always see it. Things are happening behind the scenes for the future. And it's not as if GameCube is being entirely neglected. At the end of September, the company will drop the price of the console to $99 smackers, which is I think a pretty significant reduction. Meanwhile, there are games like F-Zero GX, Soul Calibur II and Viewtiful Joe, not to mention Rogue Squadron, Mario Kart, Pikmin II and Metal Gear Solid, all just around the corner. I would call that a very strong lineup.

It's VERY HOT for those whom are waiting for another Gamecube but are NOT interested OR already have all those games. For $99, shoot, I'll buy two more. One more for MY kids' house and one more for my car.

Plus, most of the "freebie" games are dirt cheap these days.

I picked up Metroid Prime brand-new for $19.99, Resident Evil 0 is available for $19.99 at a few places (and just as cheap or cheaper used), Zelda can be snagged for about $25 used, etc. etc. - actually most of the hot deals on GameCube games that are "freebies" with the system are at BlockBuster. 🙂

I only recently bought a GCN (already have a XBox and PS2) and I really love it. I just bought the component cable direct from Nintendo (only place to get it) so I can use it on my new 27" Samsung EDTV "overclocked" to HDTV through the service menu. I love this place. 🙂

I might by another to for another room in my place. Also the new mario kart allows up to 8 people to play over a LAN.

I wonder what they would do for the gameboy SP price. It doesn't make sence to have that the same price at the Game Cube.

Mod it for what?

Import games? Buy a free loader - $10.

Pirated games? Only ISOs have been posted, no way to play them...YET.

Just think...in 6 months they will be $49.99

This seems pretty darn hot. Do you think it would be possible to buy it now @149.99 with free game promotion, and then later price adjust to 99.99 to get $50.00 back? That would result in paying net $99.99 for gamecube and free game!

Thanks,
D.

I've been out of the loop on video games lately. How does the Gamecube compare to PS2? I looked at the games briefly, and it seems that they basically have the same games out, except the Gamecube has those awesome Nintendo exclusives like Metroid, F-Zero, Mario, and Zelda.. So seems to me that Gamecube would be a better choice? What do you all think?

I think the PS2 has WAY more games available for it than the GameCube does

PS2 has the largest library of any of the systems but it is the oldest. Personally, my choices are between the GC and XBox. Both have their pros and cons. The GC for $99 will make it hard to resist.

Yeah.. I think that despite the fact that PS2 has the most games, a lot of them really stink.. There are a lot of quality Gamecube games. This seems like a hard, hard deal to resist...

Has anyone heard of this from any other sources? This is the only place I've seen that this rumor exists.

I would really like to rent some of these consoles before buying one for the family. Blockbuster doesn't rent consoles anymore, though. Does anybody know of any other places that will rent consoles? (Atlanta Area)
