Free Game with Purchase of GCN
Nintendo to offer more incentive to buy a GameCube.

January 17, 2003 - Nintendo confirmed to IGNcube today that beginning February 9 and running through May of this year, consumers who buy a GameCube for $149.99 at participating retailers will get a free game with the system courtesy of the company.
Buyers will be able to choose from four games, including: Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 0, Star Fox Adventures or Mario Party 4.

"It's an exciting program," said Nintendo of America's vice president of marketing and corporate affairs Perrin Kaplan. "It's a great opportunity come February for consumers to get their hands on the games that keep the folks at IGN up at night: Metroid Prime, Mario Party, Star Fox Adventures and Resdident Evil 0."

The more aggressive move by Nintendo could provide an extended boost to holiday sales of GameCube, which were solid, but noticeably behind a larger spike in demand for Microsoft's Xbox console.

More on this story soon.

This owns all. Gamecube + Metriod Prime for $150. I will be first in line. I hope the Platinum Cubes are still on sale then.

I find the inclusion of Metroid Prime in the deal is not a good idea. Metroid is the ONE game that will sell Gamecubes. I figure most people would be inclined to go ahead and buy the Gamecube to get the free game, then go buy Metroid Prime like they originally would've. That way they atleast make money off of a game sell. Only now, people will just get MP with their Gamecube, and no extra sells are picked up.

This is how I see it, anyways.

Just think of it as a $100 GC + MP. They will get another $50 from me when Zelda comes out so I suppose it works. If the rumors are true, Nintendo manufactures the cube for only $10 anyway. If true they are already $90 on this deal.

I think it's a smart move by Nintendo, think about it. You need a huge user base for any console to be successful. By including a killer app with the console, more people are going to buy the console because they think it's a hot deal. If there are 10 million in this country that own a Gamecube, then the console is bound to be successful.

I think this is so people buy GC before Zelda and they pick up Zelda (despite it's cell-shading)
Note to self - start saving money for this.

Scoped it out today. Getting Platinum GC + MP $150 + Platinum Wavebird $30 + Memory card $20 = $200.

Trust me. People will buy more than one game for GC, especially once they have the console sitting on the living room. Too many good games out there.

<-- trying hard to resist the temptation to buy LOTR: TT for GC.
