I have a limited amount of cash to blow and I'm weighing the pros and cons of my options.
I've wanted a "media" box to play "console" games on, old emu. arcade games, watch movies, etc., so I was thinking of going with Shuttle's tiny nforce2 400 ultra box. Then I thought, hey, for the same price (~$325) I could get an XBox and soup it up to play mp3s, videos, console games, etc. etc. I had never really thought about buying an xbox until a few days ago, but it is sounding like it does exactly what I originally wanted my tiny-PC/shuttle to do, except be designed specifically for the job and not tie up my personal box.
Then of course enters a third element: the Gameboy SP. For ~$225 I get everything I need for the lifetime of the device. Due to a recent shift in leisure lifestyle, I'm finding myself sitting in airport terminals, on planes, in subways, etc. Family summer vacation is coming up, and it is featuring both flights and roadtrips. (It certainly wasn't my idea. No, I'm not driving.)
So I guess my decision has been narrowed down a bit to XBox vs. GBSP. I've never even played a GBA/SP before, and I'm not really aware of the whole scene. I hear it is amazing, though. I've never played XBox for more than 20 minutes, and I'm fairily "up" with the scene of things, so I'm confident it wouldn't go to waste.
I guess it all comes down to the question: is GBSP merely an expensive time-eater or is it a contender with enthralling games? Should I suck it up and read some good books through travelling downtime or would a GBSP pay itself off in the long run? (Over, say, an Xbox?)
I realize this is sort of an Apples/Oranges deal. I have almost zero experience with either of my contenders so I'm looking here for some guidance. Thanks
