gameboy afterburner resistor question

i have an afterburner kit for gameboy advance that i am trying to sell.

unfortunately, i seem to have lost the resistor that originally came with the kit

from what i have been able to find, the original resister was a 43 or 44 ohm resistor, but im not even really certain about that rating so my first question would be if someone could confirm that

my second question is what can i replace it with to make the kit complete again?

Radio Shack sells a 47 ohm resistor, but i dont remember enough emag to know whether that small ohm difference will be a problem. http://www.radioshack.com/product.a...name=CTLG_011_002_014_002&product_id=271-1105

additionally, there seem to be 1/4, 1/2 and 1 watt resistors. i have no idea what the original one in the kit was. the radioshack one is 1/2. but i was told 1/4 would probably be better simply because its smaller. but radioshack doesnt have 1/4 watt resistors at that ohm-age :p

so my third question is, anyone know a better place where there is more selection of resistors (for cheap) where i can get a more exact replacement? (radioshack sells resistors in 5 packs for $1 so thats like 20cents per resistor. ive found places online selling similar resistors singly for $4 + shipping. thats dumb) i prefer locally (im in new york), but online stores will work too as long as cost and shipping is reasonable on 1 resistor.

1. can anyone confirm or give more exact stats on the resistor that came with the afterburner?
2. how closely do i have to match the original resistor as far as ohms and watts, would the one at radioshack work?
3. where else can i get resistors, that has better selection, at reasonable prices?

hopefully questions about resistors, ohms, and watts qualifies as highly technical. if not i apologize

I've never seen the original thing, so I'm shooting completely from the hip here.
Is the original a surface-mount resistor (kinda a box that lays flat on a circuit board) or a resistor with wires coming off the ends?

I doubt you could get a single resistor from anywhere online that would be cheaper than local stores.

yeah seriously...

go to radio shack and get a multi-pack of resistors. i got a pack of like 50 or 100 and it was definitely less than 5 dollars.

Look around for an old TV that someone put out on garbage day...pull it apart and have fun. Or, take something old apart, a toaster, VCR, whatever. Or, you could buy it for probably cheap.

ok hehe. my question is whether a RadioShack 1/2 watt 47ohm resistor could take the place of an unknown watt 43 ohm resistor

and if not, what other local stores sell resistors where i could find a better selection to more accurately match the original resistor (like finding a 43 ohm resistor)

Without seeing the circuitry, no one can answer your question. If it were my Gameboy, I'd use the 1/2W, 47 ohm resistor in a second. If it needed a higher wattage resistor, you'd find out really quickly (this one would get extremely hot, or would pop). This is a higher resistance than the original, so you wouldn't have to worry about excess current flow.

The only problem I could imagine might be that the afterburner wouldn't work as well when the batteries were low.

If you were really concerned, you could buy a 5 pack of 470 ohm resistors also, and use the 47 ohm in parallel with a 470 ohm. This would give you the equivalent of a 42.7 ohm resistor. Or, you could buy a pack of 22 ohm resistors, and put two of them in series - this would give you 44 ohm.

Is that good enough?

i have an AB and have installed a couple for friends, TL is no longer making the AB or supporting it but i remember the first batch came with 43 OHM resistors, i think the later revisions, like mine, came with a like 36 OHM resistor (or was it the other way around, i dunno, all i remember is the later ones came with a resistor in which the OHM difference made the newer lights DARKER and would use LESS battery power, so there is your answer)

I'd just go with the 47ohm, I doubt they were that tight in tolerance to begin with and probably won't matter. Most likely +/- 10% or more.

well i found my original resistors from triton labs. and they appear to be 39 ohms, 5% tolerance (and prolly 1/4 watt)

orange-white-black-gold they are. mustve been the later version. and what u remember as 36, was actually 39 :)

just in case anyone else ever needs to know...
