GAME2 NBA FINALS....what adjustments need to be made by both teams? serious posts only please

He was being held on a number of possesions.

-Key is more screen rolls, to free up iverson for clear shots. Also, all traffic should be directed towards the middle where Mutombo has been an intimidating presence.

Oh, and Mutombo neads to eat 50 pounds of food and convert to muscle in the next coupla hours.

Philly needs to run iverson around screens. Philly also needs to teach Geiger or McCullough how to foul Shaq hard or how to take a charge from Shaq.

LA needs to run Kobe off of some screens. LA needs somebody to step up and hit some 3s.

Kobe needs to pick his spots better. Bring in Tyrone Lue earlier to help up the tempo and match Philys. Feed the ball more to Shaq and let him punish the sixers big men.

I think this will be a low scoring tight affair. Look for them to double Iverson. When he's in zone like this no one can guard him one on one. In the last three games he's scored 46, 44, and 48. He's shooting like 46%. The funny thing is he did not even go to the line in double digits like he normally does. The Lakers will have to play better D, period. Because the Sixers will be better on D tonight than what they were in the first game. The Lakers plain and simple need Fisher and Bryant to play well. Look for Shaq to see a lot of double teams so the Lakers will have to make their open looks. I kinda lean toward the Lakers tonight because they have to win. But I thought this game, game 2 would be the Sixers best chance to steal one. But I thought they would lose the first. Its really tough to call because both teams played fairly well, but both teams can play better. I don't think rust at all was a factor despite what the Laker faithful have said. The Lakers jumped out to a 13 point lead in the first. And had a 5 point lead in OT with 2 mins left. You don't do that if rust is a factor. I just gotta believe they will come out and find a way to sustain and keep their leads. If LA can hit their jumpers they will be fine and probably win. The in the middle stuff is negated with Mutumbo. The Sixers will have to play more sound defense. They had to many nonsense fouls. I also believe they will need McKie to play better, even though he's got an ankle problem.

The law of averages has to catch up with Iverson one of these days. Also, the Lakers will be more hungrier to win Game 2 as they were kinda "embarrassed" during the first game. These two things make them very dangerous coming to Game 2. Looks very interesting to me.

how often do they call a charge on shaq?

anyway, iverson needs to keep doing what he's doing... maybe if lue holds him he can be like "stop grabbin me or my homies will kill ya!!"

mutumbo needs to have a good good game and not make too many defensive mistakes

eric snow is gonna have to have a good jumper today too

and when mutumbo goes out, geiger needs to score and try to stop shaq

well, what if mutumbo screens for iverson on the top of the key?? shaq's defense gets somewhat crippled unless he is under the basket, and if someone like mutumbo picks lue, iverson is free (doubt shaq will switch to iverson, if he does, mutumbo has a dunk)

Lakers need to slow down the tempo of the game. They rushed way too many posessions on Wednesday which led to 19 turnovers and 25 easy Philly points. The key to this is Kobe playing his game and not trying to go head to head with Iverson.

Philly needs to keep the tempo up because Shaq can single handedly dominate the game in a half court setup. Mutumbo needs to stay out of foul trouble (easier said than done) because Shaq will run right over anyone else.

Lakers have to stop the turnovers from easy stuff. 19 turnovers in game 1 is an easy way for any team to lose. Lakers gotta try to clamp down on Iverson because fouling him won't help the cause at all. Kobe and Fisher need to score. Kobe was 7 for 22 in game 1 and that's just terrible. If Kobe scores in the 20+ range, Lakers are gonna win. Shaq also has to guard the second string center too, he scored 5 jumpers on Shaq because Shaq barely left the paint for him.

Essentially, Lakers gotta shutdown the other parts of the offense and try to clamp a bit down some more on Iverson. I say put Lue in early on, then get Fisher on him, but I'm not Phil Jackson.

It is true that Shaq does not get called for chargin very often (once every two or three games) and same goes for Iverson and carries. But that is the superstar treatment.

I agree that LA have to get Deke in foul trouble and stay in the half court set, but that does not mean that the sixersa won't run after a missed shot or after a quick inbound following a shaq basket.

I think the sixers will try to draw shaq out of the lane a little and will try to make him run up and down the court which will wear him out a little.

Kobe needs to play better, but he does not get open shots against this team. They are great at swarming when he tries to drive. If his jumper starts falling the sixers will be in a little bit of trouble as tyhe only guy in the NBA who can challenge that shot is McGrady.

Much as I hate to admit it....I can only see Lakers winning this one.

They underestimated 76ers in the first game and/or believed all the crap that they were unbeatable. They are not gonna make the same mistake twice. And I cant see them losing 2 home games back to back. They are gonna be pumped up tonight.

Still, going back to Philly for the next 3 games at 1-1 would be a great position for Sixers.

Sixers:
Keep hitting Kobe w/ the one-two punch of Raja Bell & Aaron Mckie. They did an excellent job defending him in game one.

Try to keep Mutumbo out of foul trouble. No one can STOP Shaq. Mutumbo, the Defensive Player of the Year, is about as good as it gets. His presence on the floor helps the team out alot.

In the past few games Philly has played, someone has stepped up a little to help Iverson. This must continue, whether it be Gieger jump shots, McKie three's or Bell's out-of-nowhere heroics.

Lakers:
Don't put too much trust in Tyronn Lue. He did a nice job defending Iverson, but, there's a reason he rides the bench. He offered a nice spurt, but wore himself down in overtime. Iverson has better conditioning.

Realize that this MUST be Shaq's series. He proved why he is the team leader in game one. As someone mentioned earlier if Kobe tries to go head to head with Iverson's totals, he may not be able to contain his selfishness. This can only hurt the Lakers in the long run.

Stop being so damn cocky! You can loose! Even after the game they were talking "NOW, its a series!" WTF, what did you think going in? The Sixers split games with them in the regular season. Lakers have been playin good ball, but jeez.

Iverson and the Sixers have heart! Let's face it, the Lakers have a better squad than them, but if they keep playing like a team (albiet a team w/ one tremendous scorer) they will win. Everyone on Philly knows their roles, and that's important. And AI will give it all he has and then some, that's why I'm goin with Philly to take it all!

nice sig afropick!

I sum up each teams strategy in two words

LA - Contain Shaq
Philly - Contain Iverson

I harken back to the ESPN Sportscenter of old.

"You can't stop him, you can only hope to contain him!"

nahnuhneh nahnuhneh!

This is an excellent point. The Lakers need to be constantly giving Iverson different looks to try and take him out of the rhythm of his game.

I also read this morning that McKie has a broken right ankle. He'll play but, that can't help the 76ers cause. Then again it seems like the more they get beat up the better they play.
