Game with the best recoil system?

I personally prefer CS recoil over all others. The challenge makes it fun. Everything else is either too jumpy or too accurate. What are your thoughts?

Btw - Valve should definitely make a game with CS-like recoil. HL1 and HL2 are terrible when it comes to recoil. Maybe HL3 will have CS-like recoil? T_T I sure hope so..

Edit: Oh, and excessive tracer fire is the devil

I agree more recoil and more powerful shots instead of less recoil and weak shots.

AKA 2-3 hits = kill, instead of 4-6 = kill

Agreed. With most other games you can just go full auto while running and still be pretty accurate. I wish more games would adopt a system like CS.

Mafia for me. The recoil effect on every gun felt appropriately realistic and powerful, and the controls are the smoothest of any game I've ever played. There's few feelings to match shooting an old lady in the head, the recoil lifting your arm in front of her (it's in 3rd person), and then your arm lowering to see her there lifeless.

Quake doesn't even have recoil, does it?

you do realize that there are 50 calibre rifles with no appreciable recoil right?

Most games are unrealistic in the large amount of recoil that make rifles have. What games usually don't get right is the exhaustion from moving around so much with all the gear they draw. (let alone bunny hoppers that proliferate)

I don't really care for CS recoil. Its unintuitive since the gun kicks up, but its not represented with any sort of feedback on screen. Sure, the crosshair widens, but that doesn't immediately make you think the gun has kicked up in your hand...it just makes you think the spread is worse. This is why new players go full auto at close range and are pissed they hit nothing. They should have been aiming at the other guys feet.

I know everyone hates DoD's recoil system, and DoD:S could definately use some work on it, but I think its basic principles make sense. It requires the player to take a more active role in recoil management while also giving them ample feedback.

Recoil in CS and DOD is a joke and there is nothing remotely realistic about it

They both use the "bullet cloud" system where after a certain point, in DOD it could be the first bullet, the projectile trajectory is completely random

DOD being the worst of the two with random...errr recoil induced on every shot, much less so for sighted weapons
It makes up for this by having the bullets do far more damage then CS

It is comical how FPS's are today. Recoil is unrealitically high for the most part and then they model the weapon delay to change out ammo but allow people to fly around the map at 4.4 40 speed and never get tired.

DoD:Source is just obnoxious with their recoil and natural weapon sway system.
I can handle CS:S, it isnt too bad and at least makes it possible the bullet will end up close to where your cross hairs are pointing.

Personally though, I'd take a recoiless game as none of them seem to be close to how recoil works. Maybe the devs should spend a day at the firing range before they design a system that models this. Because quite honestly, if you have fired guns, I dont see how you could model something so effing wrong. Be like driving a car then not being able to model the turning of the thing correctly.

I shoot guns and I think DoD:S is quite accurate, although CS:S is the best balance of realism and gameplay.

what? now granted, i've never fired a full auto machine gun, but the rifles are a joke. when i fire a rifle from a standing position, my gun barrel doesn't rise 6 feet in the air.

i agree with you. i love how games with SAWs and stuff like that are so damn inaccurate, even at close range. come on, if you're in an alley and an enemy enters it, he's gonna be cut in half. i can't remember how many times that type of situation or being almost point blank, came up in BF2 when i played, and you couldn't hit the guys.

bf2 and DoD:S are the worst imo

actually, i think HL2 has a pretty fair recoil system - not as bad as CSS, but enough to make you miss plenty of shots if you're not careful.

you can dump 30rd thru an M4 keeping it on a pie plate full auto @50m..... games are unrealistic as far a recoil. In most games a MP5 moves all over the place....Defiantly the running/ recovery is way off as well..... but hey they are fun to play.

CS is unrealistic. DoD rather realistic. I've done a WW2 reenactment (private; not spectator) and they had some actual working guns. Those guns are HEAVY, and the working guns they had (M1 and MP40) have a TON of reaction force on your body. The MP40 especially. The M1 is rather accurate, but you definitely have to take some strides to bring it back down to a correct aiming position. The MP40 is just a wild, random gun and I don't see how anyone in their right mind in WW2 would have ever fired it from more than about 15 meters and actually expected to effectively wound someone.

What he said...ghost recon was my favorite shooter because the recoil and damage and AI was the most balanced and realistic.

I'd rather have a realistic damage model and die in one or two hits then watch enemies still fight after I headshot'em.
