Game taking long time to install...

I just built my computer a couple weeks ago (mobile 2400+, Hitachi SATA hd, 9800 pro, 1 gig kingston RAM). The only games I've installed on it so far are Unreal Tournament (which had no problems), and now I'm installing Silent Hill 3. The game is on 5 CDs; my question is, is it supposed to take 15-20 minutes for the game to install? I never remember seeing a game take this long and it seems like to me its going way slower than it should be. Just didn't know if this is normal or not.

It can, it's not just copying files but likely decompressing them as well. Far Cry is 5 CDs and iirc took a solid 10-15 minutes to install on a 52x drive, I wouldn't worry about it so long as its install time is measured in minutes & not hours and runs. Wrong forum, btw.

It takes a long time to copy 5 cds worth of info. Add in the overtime to uncompress the files and that sounds just about right. The bottleneck is the CD reading speed; it doesnt mean your system is crapping out :)

Alright cool....I actually thought it had stalled at one point so I cancelled the install and restarted it again(oops). And sorry I guess about posting this in the wrong forum.

To add my 2 cents, it takes me a long time to install Visual Studio .NET (probably 30+ minutes), which is four CDs, I believe for the same reason previously mentioned which is that the files are compressed.
