I moved from CA to OR a few weeks ago.
Got my office and game computer up and running at home just fine.
The game machine has been going great the whole time but just this morning it started being a bad girl.

I didnt make any system changes. I didnt drop it. We had no power spikes and its seperated from the wall by an UPS and a surge strip anyway.
The power supply checks out good.
I have a DFI Lanparty UT nF4 SLI ER Expert. Right now the only indication I have is the amber LED between the 2nd PCI and PCIE slots.

Tried resetting the CMOS with the jumper. Nothing.
Tried using the reset and power switches right on the MB. Nothing.
I have no other system to test the CPU or RAM on but it doesnt look or smell like I've smoked anything.

When I hit either of the power buttons (case or MB) I get no response. No sqeeks or beeps or fans.
Its as if the power supply was removed but I can see the amber light on the MB glowing.

Cant think of anything besides taking it down to the local nerd shop and I know they'll charge me a hundred bucks just to tell me whats wrong, and they possibly wont even be correct.

Am out of home troubleshooting ideas. I dont have any equipment delicate enough to test the CPU or MB with. Just a cheap Radio Shack multimeter.

Well, as long as all your mobo power cables are all plugged in nice and tight, the only other thing I can think of is the PSU. It might seem fine with the dmm, but you never know...

Another thing to try is removing the CMOS battery for a few hours, or even over night. Never helped for me, but I've heard that it can work. Personally, I had a comp that wouldn't POST until I just took it apart and put everything back together (beats me).

In any case, good luck. Just keep trying to pull/replace whatever hardware you can and hope you can get it to POST.

Will try removing the battery and parts tonight.

As best I understand it, even without a video card or RAM I should be able to get the MB to boot up, which means spinning and whirring and beeping. That would be an improvement over what I have right now.

And I know about the problems. I got logged off by AT and thats never happened before, even when I got a short vacation.

It was the power supply.
My 9 dollar Radio Shack multi-meter showed proper voltage at each pin, but it wasnt supplying enough current to even spin a fan, let alone run a dual core athlon and a 7900GTX.

It was a relatively cheap Antec P/S I got from Staples.
Already ordered a more expensive ThermalTake from Newegg.

The local nerd shop only charged me 20 bucks for the half hour it took to diagnose.

And while I was walking by I saw a cute girl at the local Payless!
Now I just have to come up with excuses to keep buying shoes. ;)
