GameSpy Top 50

While I agree with many of their picks, I can't believe that either Sim City or Sim City 2000 didn't make the top 10, let alone the list. :p

What are your thoughts?

-Super Metroid
hmm, that one should be a bit higher than that, that was probably one of the best games of all time.

-Counter-Strike
.... suprised it was this low in the list

-Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

ok, now this one should be 1-5 up there along with super metriod

-Asheron's Call

This list is terrible, and it's been debated to hell on slashdot already.

I'm going to steal "Kupek"'s remarks from there:

For those of you who don't visit videogame sites with any regularity, you should probably know that these sites do an "Top $num Games" feature damn near every other week. So don't take this one to be the ultimate judgement of anything, if you think something is missing, it's probably because the few people who came up with it (surprise, surprise) have different tastes than you do.

this article takes 6 years to read thru, and they don't have a ToC, and of cource they scramble up the URLs so that you can't guess your way to the top of the list.

glad I have ad-blocking on so these whores aren't getting paid for this crap

Bah, Simcity (2000) was too hard. I had to either borrow till noone wanted to lend me moola, use a money cheat or destroy low income residental/commercial/industrial buildings with reckless abandon. :D

Did I miss dune 2 on that list?

And Diablo number 6? It was an okay game and sold a lot of copies but it wasn't a rpg or an arcade game, just lots of click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, clicking of the mouse.

WTF!!!!!

Super Metroid is #46? That's just wrong
Legend of Zelda is #43, mistake. This was a groundbreaking game
Goldeneye 007, #37? Should be Top 10
Thief was also badly placed, Thief was the first game of its kind and it was great.
Ok most of their choices sucked, their top 5 sucks IMHO. I would have chosen diiferently but anyways Counter-Strike was good at #27, am I the only one that doesn't count CS as a game? I count it more as like a Mod but not a full game. CS and HL should be considered 1.

I'm glad Warcraft2 was in there. I was thinking "it better be here or this list is bogus"...good thing they had it.

It takes brains to play a good sim game. Not everything is a stupid shoot 'em up like CS.

Doom is #1? No, no no. It was an improvement from Wolfenstein, but it wasn't as revolutionary as they're making it out to be. However, they did use the word "sh!t" in the review of doom, and any curse in an article makes it respectable (just barely in this case) in my book.

I kind of agree, the Diablo series is incredibly addictive but games like Baldur's Gate II and Planescape: Torment are way more immersive and offer a better overall gaming experience IMO. Yet they are way down in the high 30s and 40s.

Unreal Tornament isnt even on there, has just a high player/servers available as CS/HL...

starcraft deserved #1 more than doom did...just cuz doom paved the way doesnt make it the best...

not saying sc would be my #1 choice, but it was the first to balance 3 races that well and great multiplayer...

I didn't see any Sierra Adventures (King's Quest, Space Quest, etc...) in the list. That's just plain wrong.

I would have put Total Annihilation WAY above Quake 2. I didn't care for it all. it bored me.
Q3 arena wasn't bad but Q2 just sucked in my opinion.

Doom doesnt' deserve the number one position. sorry. it just didn't. I think it got number 1 because it was the first almost real 3d. but think about it for a second. Doom was still soild 2d graphincs done in 4 directions. Hell Jedi Knight/Quake Deserved the number one spot than doom. atleast it was a true 3d game

Well atleast they had C&C on it. Red Alert should of have been on that list.

Final Fantasy 3 I feel was about correctly placed. I think it could have been higher.

Oh yea something I forgot. WHERE the hell was Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight? This game was great and was one of the highest anticipated games when it came out, it also lived up to its expectations.

Agreed... these games are far superior to a lot of the crap on there.

CS doesnt deserve a spot on the list at all IMO. All it did was copy Rainbow Six and Rogue Spear's well done model and port it to the HL engine. The only thing that kept them from CS-like popularity was the fact that they weren't free (Well, neither was CS cause you did have to own HL). I'll still take Rogue Spear over CS, the weapons are much more varied and the game is just more fun.

Damn it, I thought I clicked that "reply" button only once. I hope Zuni codes a "delete post" option into FuseTalk 3.0 :)
