Update: Some people are reporting problems with Game Room on both the PC and Xbox 360. The game is hanging on the loading screen for the Xbox 360 and has install problems on the PC. Microsoft says that they are aware of the issues and are working on it. Some are reporting that rebooting the Xbox 360 works for them. I freed up space on my Xbox 360 hard drive this morning and was able to get Game Room to load.
We'll keep you up to date on the situation and possible fixes.
Original story:
Microsoft's Game Room was released today for both the PC (Games for Windows Live) and Xbox 360 to close out the month long Block Party promotion. Journey back to the arcades of the 70s, 80s, and 90s and play some of the classics.
Despite what the pictures suggest, you don't actually get to walk your Avatar around the Game Room. Instead, the Game Room acts as more of a hub where you can place arcade cabinets representing different games around your arcade. You can decorate and change the themes of the rooms in your arcade to whatever is available that is free or whatever your willing to purchase with MS Points.
While the Game Room itself is free, Microsoft gives you three different ways to buy classic arcade games to populate your Game Room with.
Other features of the Game Room include the ability to visit friend's Game Rooms, challenging them to multiplayer games, rewinding unranked games and more. Game Room launches with over 30 games and Microsoft promises to release seven new classic arcade games each week.
After you download Game Room you'll want to download both of the free Game Packs to get access to all the arcade games. Here is a complete list of the games available in the Game Room Store.
