I've never really owned a nice video card so I was never able to play the latest and greatest games as they would always run like crap on my system. However, now since I have an E8400, 4GB of RAM, and HD4890 I do. What games would you guys recommend to really take advantage of the new card? I've already got Crysis and have been playing through that.

You also do not mention your OS.

Some suggestions:

Crysis + Warhead - Graphically intensive FPSes (Yes, I mentioned this because you are already playing Crysis)

Dawn of War 2 - If you have a 64-bit OS, you'll enjoy the Ultra graphics setting and it's a really well polished looking game. It is also a good RTS for both SP and MP.

Hellgate:London - Ok, everyone will say that overall it is a poor game and it's failure highlights this BUT it's implementation of DX10 is the best in any game I have seen or heard of. In certain areas in DX10 1920x1080, all ultra/highest... it looks stunning and pushed my 512mb 4870 to its limits. Should be at an absolute bargain bin price.

Age of Conan - MMORPG. I would research this one heavily before purchase. When I played, it was buggy, unbalanced and lacked content but graphically it is probably the most impressive MMO out there.

Homeworld/Homeworld2/Nexus: The Jupiter Incident/Freelancer/ Freespace 2 (with open source graphical enhancements) - More old school type games but depending on your previous PC, you may not have been able to crank the eye candy to maximum. Barring Freelancer which was merely good, the games above are some of the greatest ever produced and would be a worthy addition to any PC gamers collection.

X3: Reunion - Space-based sim heavily based around space trade and building you own space empire/fleet. Graphically impressive but not everyones cup of tea game-wise.

G.R.I.D. - Very good racing game, looks good to boot.

Unfortunately most of my suggestions are for older games. I cannot seem to find modern games to pull me in and keep me entertained.

Stalker + Stalker: Clear Sky, Fallout 3, Empire: Total War, Farcry 2, UT3. That covers a bit of everything and all with the latest and greatest graphics around.

I didn't really specify because I like a bit of everything, depending on what kind of mood I'm in. So I was looking more for general recommendations.

Right now I'm running Windows 7. Before I got the HD4890 I didn't use the PC for much but web browsing, so if Windows 7 becomes a problem, I could install Vista again. I did have to set Crysis to Vista compatibility mode, but it's been running fine.

BUMP!

OK, I just got a 4890 and quad core 3GHz Phenom the other day. Was finally able to play Crysis without slowdown.
Must admit I was not impressed with the gameplay much, and the graphics were unimpressive after about 2 minutes. Sorry I paid the full 50 bucks for that game when it first came out. I could have bought it today for 10 bucks (when I was finally able to play it properly)

As for the OP's issue, GRID looks awesome and runs smooth at 1600x1200.
Can finally run Supreme Commander at max detail with 8 players, a map FILLED with units and not experience horrible slowdowns. But I suspect that was more of a CPU limitation anyway.
FEAR 2 demo runs great, but like Crysis I am not impressed by the gameplay. Will probably not purchase it.
Fallout 3 looks good at 1600x1200 and max details. But, AGAIN, the gameplay I found to be lacking. I wont go through it again, just wanted to see it run.

Sad. I am getting more enjoyment out of old stuff. But as folks have said, upcoming titles look very promising and I'll be grateful for the fast hardware. I wanna play the new Deus Ex and Wolfenstein when they come out. And probably the new Red Faction.

Crysis... its the only game that still brings the 4890 to its knees. Call of Duty 5 maxed out is pretty impressive too... Call of Duty 4 feels cut and dry after 5. Dawn of War 2 is pretty impressive and fun, but the 4890 eats it up so no challenge there.

New games... hm..

Try... games release in 2009 and 2008 like

Overlord II (also first one if you feel like getting to know the story)
Prototype (console port but is awesome pwnage) (beware it will give you nightmares, did to me)
Ghostbusters (sounds ridiculous but is cool)
Battlestations Pacific
Dark Sector
Demigod
Dead Space
Mirror's Edge
H.A.W.X (i think it use dx10.1 but u better find out to be sure)
Far Cry 2 (its annoying but also have some lookings)
EndWar
CoD: World at War
Empire: Total War
Cryostasis (is a meh but oh well try it anyway)
The Last Remnant (consolized but if you like FF or jap like games here we go)
Left 4 Dead (not so intensive but looks cool and the Left 4 Dead 2 is in its way soon)
Unreal Tournament III (the game is dead already but for a few looks is fine)
Drakensang (kinda sluggish fight system but some vistas looks cool)
F.E.A.R 2 (also Fear one because u played two)
Spore (for some childish fun)
The Sims 3 (really cool, one of my favorites, by the way that doesn't mean I am a Girl)
Orange Box (good for ati users because valve is ati friend)
Combat Arms (Free to Play Korean FPS, total pwnage)
Fallout 3 (original game is somewhat cool, the expansions i hear are great. stop playing it because of nightmares)
Savage 2 (Free Multiplayer game, not so high graphics but cool in melee multiplayer fights)
Company of Heroes (really dx10 intensive, it may rape your GPU because of its strange codding but cool)

dunno what else... let me keep thinking....
