game randomly freezes: Graphics card problem

I installed a new mobo (Epox 8RDA+) on my computer and because ATI delayed sending me my graphics card for over 2 months I bought a temporary Geforce 4 MX to go on the board. After my graphics card arrived yesterday I installed it and now all 3d games would freeze up randomly for no reason at all.

The ones I tried are Half-Life: Natural Selection and Warcraft 3. The screen would completely freeze and I can hear the music, but the whole entire system stops responding and I am forced to reset.

Is there anything I can do to stop this from happening? I removed my geforce 4 drivers already and I'm not sure if theres anything leftover. The driver I installed for geforce 4 was the newest one from the nvidia homepage.

did you remove all ati drivers? I hear there like herpes, you might need a fresh install of your O/S

bah.
GF4->Rad9700 here.
1. on WinXP Pro. uninstalled nvidia drivers, deleted nvidia folders.
2. took out card. inserted radeon.
3. installed driver and control panel. no problems.

reinstalling the OS should be considered a myth :eek:

How powerful a power supply do you have? I had that problem when I took the leap from Voodoo 3 3000 PCI to GF4ti4400.
