Game Playing Problem

Here's my problem...

For the longest time, I had no problems playing any game at all on my system. Last week I tried the new Omega drivers for the first time, and an unusual problem crept up: While playing ANY game (Diablo II, Morrowind, etc.), the computer's drives would emit a "click-click" and the computer would freeze. I removed the Omega drivers, and went back to the Catalyst drivers (I used Driver Cleaner). Same problem.

I thought it might be one of my drives dying, so I took my main drive offline, re-did WindowsXP on the secondary drive. Same problem.
I formatted both drives and tried each on individually (with the other drive left out of the machine completely). Same problem.

When starting any game, I would listen to the machine, and the clicking would be emitted from the hard drives. This ONLY happens when playing a DirectX-type game; I can do anything else (surf, download files overnight, play Party Poker etc.), for hours on end with no freezes and no clicks. It ONLY happens when trying to play a DirectX game.

Yes, I have tried re-installing DirectX and running all its tests and the computer can pass them all without clicks.

If anyone has any idea as to what is happening, please let me know...

My system:
Intel P4 2.53 (not overclocked)
Intel 845 motherboard
512MB PC2100
ATI Radeon 9700 AIW
60G + 80G hard drives
400w Enermax Power Supply
...blah,blah,blah...
