Game play streaming/recording?

I'm in the process of building a gaming rig(1080p) for my nephew.

One of the things he wants to do is streaming and recording his gameplay. I would assume not at the same time. Guess he wants to sometimes stream to twitch and other times upload videos to youtube, etc.

The video card choice isn't final yet....But the NVidia offerings do seem overpriced vs the performance offered.

Looking at this semi-recent anandtech article it looks like the AMD Game DVR might be good enough for him. http://www.anandtech.com/show/8224/hands-on-with-amds-gaming-evolved-client-game-dvr

Has anybody used it? Results are decent? Good enough?

Alternative apps?

His budget is pretty tight at $800 total so it's not going to leave a lot of $'s for the gpu....So most likely it's a best bang for the buck choice.

Thanks!

Some streaming software, such as OBS (Open Broadcaster Software), supports QuickSync for better encoding. I don't think it will be as efficient as ShadowPlay or Game DVR, but it's always an option if he's going with Intel.

As for AMD's solution, I have an NVIDIA GPU, so I can't tell you much about it.
