All right, all right, I confess.

I've been grousing at all the people who keep touting this as the end-all, be-all of books. Previously I had read only the first 50 pages, then thrown the book down in disgust when I assumed (incorrectly) that young Bran Stark had met an untimely end at the business end of the far-away ground.

But, I perservered, and actually bought the book, which I figured would force me to read it. If I was still disgusted, I'd throw it out on the FS/FT forum.

Well, I just got done with it a couple hours ago. What with the holidays and all, it took me somewhere around a month and a half to finish it. This is a well traveled book, too - it's been in about 20 states, from Colorado, to Indiana, to California, and back again. ;)

So I've got the second book in my hot little hands. I'm gonna let the first book digest a while, I think, then I shall dive in yet again. The only thing that annoys me is that the third book will not be out in paperback until May - and then only in trade format. No biggy, the library has it.

P.S. - I still like Terry Goodkind better. :p

Yah thats a good damn series. I felt as you did with the first book but once things start going you dont wanna put it down. The second one is even better and the third is pretty good also. Overall it's one of a few series of books that always pops in my mind when recomending new books to people.

If you've even ever been <b>remotely </b> interested in fantasy, you should read it. Even if you've never been interested in fantasy, it's an <i>awesome</i> read!

book is awesome, martin is god. now if he can keep his characters from becoming gods (though i fear one will) it will be one of the best fantasy series of all time, and far better than WOT.

of course, WOT was pretty damn good through 3 books.

(see, part of what makes tolkien so great is that the characters are human, not gods. except gandalf of course, who is sort of a minor god, being a maiar. of course, sauron is the most powerful maiar, but thats neither here nor there.)

You like Goodkind better than Martin? Please tell me you're joking.

Ouch...I like Goodkind well enough, but I think he has a perl script stuck in an infinite loop spitting out his plot lines.

Every book has been "Richard has to do what person or group X says, or Kahlan will die (or something)."

He writes a good enough story, but he needs some variation...

Martin is my favourite thus far, but one must keep in mind he only has 3 books.
The Wheel of Time was amazing for the first 3 books. From 4-7 it started getting bad...I actually kinda like the newest one, but still...they aren't very good since #3.

Martin could theoretically go downhill to.

Did you read the last one? Richard and Kahlan were in it for about 20 pages.

i haven't read the newest one but Terry Goodkind always struck me as kind of kinky. Sexual symbols abound in his books.

But I like them both... so I'm not going to say which is better.

I liked Terry Goodkinds first book. Then the second one it started like he was ripping of of WOT stuff but they are still pretty fast paced and interesting. The last Goodkind book was excellent in my opinion.
