So wait, do you guys spoil future book stuff, that has not been in the show, in this thread? Just want to know so I can leave if that is going to happen...

KT

I am pretty sure I didn't spoil anything. I added spoilers around the named event, but it isn't like you know what it referring to. And, if you don't know about the Red Wedding, you're too far behind to complain about spoilers. Should I not say Bruce Willis is dead at the end of the Sixth Sense either?

I know the Red Wedding, I did not know about the other colour (I saw it before you spoiler tagged it). I'm honestly not fussed about your post specifically, I was asking in general in case other things come out.

I tried to be as vague as possible, and it had been mentioned before. Just naming the event doesn't give anything away, except that it is a wedding.

I haven't seen any real spoilers. Nobody came in posting Dumbledore dies on pg. 734!

No worries man, again, was not fussed about your post, it just caused me to ask the question in case there were other things being posted willy-nilly around this thread.

Wife and I wrapped up season 3 this weekend. Love that they made Tywin more...Tywin'y in this season. He had some of the best lines/moments of any character.

They also accurately conveyed how much I loathed the Bran storyline in the books. I'm sure it'll go *somewhere* eventually. But there's only so much wondering around the north and having trippy dreams I can take.

Agreed on all counts. Tywin is awesome, as is the actor playing him.

The only good thing about the Bran storyline is Hodor. :D

The Bran storyline is awful. It obviously HAS to go somewhere, but will anyone still care when it does? Bran should have been killed off in book one and all his space devoted to Tyrion and Tywin.

I agree.
Even knowing where it went in the books, I still hate it. Arya, on the other hand, really goes places I like!

I've kind of felt the same with with Danny's plot. It's just her somewhat aimlessly stumbling about and plodding her way west. At least there's some interesting things happening in her story line...dragons, lesbians, 8000 man eunich armys, oh my! But every time a Danny chapter comes up I need to prepare myself for more misery of her story arc dragging along.

Arya's chapters were no different as she fumbled around the middle of the country, but she had one of the most interesting personalities in the book and her events with the bannerless men and The Hound were more digestable.

From what I've heard the 4th and 5th books essentially happen at the same time, like Saw 3 & 4, so yeah, no way they will do that with different seasons of the show.

I just finished the third season and I liked it a lot more than Season 2 overall. I do wish some characters would just go away (Shay, I am looking at you) but I thought there were two absolutely amazing episodes in Season 3 (Astapoor and the Red Wedding) and lots of very solid storylines throughout the rest of the season (Jamie and Brienne, for example, was awesome), while the second season dragged a little more. The first season is still the best by far though.

It's going to be hard to watch this show week by week. I really enjoyed the binge watching.

I like shay. every time I see her, I pop open one of her videos  :D
too bad the mother of dragons maid girl was kiiled off in season 2.

would have loved to see shay and her do a girl-girl scene. (no, not in GoT)
if that did happen, give me the title of the video! STAT!

hm.. I read some of the GoT wiki but have never come acrossed anything mentioning purple wedding.
so i'll be pleasantly surprised when it shows up

Oh yeah. That storyline gets better and better. I like the Daenerys storyline more now too.

I think Daenerys future story line is meh.
I've captured multiple cities. now how do I run a kingdom?
plus starting to lose control of her dragons...

I liked Shay in the books. There was a particular mystery to her and subtle intelligence. The TV version is just a whiny bitch with a temper. My wife and I were equally annoyed with her character.

The character for Davos is older than I would have expected, but I actually like the TV version more than the book. He's got a much more calming, warm personality to him in contrast to Stanis that works very well. They made him a better character in the show.

I didn't realize Shay had other 'videos'. I will have to be sure to check those out. =)

I agree with vi though. Shay was better in the books and I really like Davos, even down to how he looks.

Because it's a necessity. What can happen in the series is dictated by what already happened in the books.

Not really. Yes, the show is based off of the book, but if it wasn't it's own content, then there would be no reason to produce it.

From what I hear, it has already deviated quite a bit, killing off people are that are very much alive in the books past that point.

anyway, I give two turds about the books or any expectation of what may occur based on them, as I'm invested in the show and prefer it to be revealed to me that way.

I get it though; I wouldn't begrudge anyone taking the discussion in that direction, and it seems that most are pretty good with spoiler tags. That being said, it is the primary reason I have and will continue to avoid this thread for the most part.

Had I read the books some years ago, at an age when I cared about such stuff, it would be different for me.

Is Shay that fire chick with the vagina shadow monster?

I do like how season 3 ended with her appearing to convince Stanis to make the right call:
Hey, dumbass. turn your army around and go take care of those f*&^%^^%$ing zombies that whiped out our ancestors!

Definitely makes her more interesting.

I actually like hearing the differences between the books and the show, but I don't really want to be spoiled for future stuff. I've found a podcast which does that well since one host has read all of the books and the other host has only watched the show. Listening to that was pretty interesting and, to me, added to the enjoyment of the show; I got a bit more of the world but without getting too far afield from the show.

Who knows, if the book series ends up closing out strongly, then maybe I will read them all through some day, but for now I will just sit with the show, that podcast, and a bit of additional online reading here and there.

No, Shay is the Turkish prostitute, Tyrion's lady. Melisandre is the red priestess chick with the smoke baby.

That's not really true. They took a few liberties of interchanging characters into another's plotline (Gendry being a big one) and removed a few others that had memorable moments (Strong Belwas) but not really important ones. There's a few times that the show actually tied things together a little better.
Why/How Stanis showed up at the wall for example.

Half of the books are 4-6 characters literally wondering around bumping into things for 1600 pages. You need to cliff notes that shit down somehow.

Yes and no. Sometimes people will forgot, sometimes people don't care. Most of the times it's in spoiler text, but you wind up with large blocks of text blacked out. Or you view it on tapatalk which I guess doesn't support the spoiler tag. Or you mouse over a spoiler text navigating the page and catch a glimpse of a spoiler.

Name one even remotely important character that was killed in the books, but not in the series or vice versa?

Other than changing Robb's wife so much and eliminating some minor characters and side stories to streamline things, the series is remarkably true to the books. All the big events are the same.

Noted, thanks. I'll try to be careful with my reading here.
