Is there going to be sex and nudity in this? Can i watch it with my family?

If its like the books, and from everything I hear its almost identical, there will be alot of sex and graphic violence. Not something for children.

This is my all time favorite hard fantasy series, and George RR Martin is my all time favorite fantasy author. That being said, Lena Headey is nowhere NEAR how I envisioned Cersei Lannister to be.

This is how I think she would look. (google image)

Here's one of her actually in costume for this role:

God I hope they didn't rape this story. You'd think it wouldn't be possible, with as much time Martin appears to be involved.

We'll see.

Amazing what happens when the fantasy assumptions of a hormone-raging pre-teen are replaced by the cold, grim reality of casting real people in roles previously only known from the silly, horny minds of fantasy artists.

I think that might be a bit harsh, Cersei is described pretty well throughout the series and from the people I have spoken with, we all agree that Lena Headey doesn't really fit.

All of these characters are very difficult to cast, I think Headey will do a good job, she has the acting chops I believe, but it will be interesting to see the characters come to life.

Hopefully at least they don't add the child porn parts. :(

iirc, the characters were aged by their name days which they seemed to have received several years into their lives.

LA Times has posted a nice character cheat sheet which has photos of many of the characters and some background for each when you hover over the photo.

Robb stark, Jon Stark and Sansa Stark all look at least a decade too old.

Also, Petyr Baelish looks far too masculine.

I like the rest of the cast though.

I agree that sansa and robb both look too old, Jon too, but i think Jon will grow into it more as his character is revealed.

Sansa not so much, robb not so much either.

I think the ages of some of the characters have actually been increased for the purposes of the TV series (above what is listed in the cheat sheet, which matches the books), but I haven't found anything definitive on this.

I don't see any problem with Petyr's appearance. He looks pretty good in the trailers.

They aged up the characters for the TV series. GRRM has said that, if he could go back, he'd make all the kids three to four years older. Check out GRRM's not a blog for most of the videos that have been posted thus far. There's a ton out there. http://grrm.livejournal.com/

Personal favorite, and this isn't on George's blog, is the portrait of Tyrion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ois_9HGsfkU

Oh, and Tricia Helfer would have been perfect for Cersei.

Started listening to the audiobook in anticipation. I've never read a fantasy book before but digging GRRM. I don't like audiobooks much but the narrator is awesome in this case.

Ive not read the books but am really looking forward to the series. Looks a little complicated for the average viewer though so we may be the only ones watching it. Hope not for cancellation reasons if nothing else.

I hope Emilia Clarke is a little better in this one than she was in "Jurassic Attack". Hah.
(Flick was on SyFy Channel so that tells you what it was like if you arent familiar.)

I wonder why? I think the age of the characters adds a visceral element to the series, to see so many of the characters go through so much at such a tender age, and watch them grow as a result of these experiences really makes them who they are. I can't see Robb being say 18 from the beginning, it would really mess up a lot of the story, same for Arya and Bran.

I wonder what they'll do if the series ends up being a big success, what with book 6 and 7 still not written, and not likely to be done in time either.

They will make a ton of money on GRRM's death selling bluray special collectors editions of the shows they did make.

He was awesome. Really added to my enjoyment of the books. Alas, they went with a new narrator in book 3 and he was awful.
