or Jaqen is posing as the thin man as a test for arya.
or even more, Jaqen knew that kingsguard was coming and using the thin man disguise to see how she does.

Few good interesting theories right there.

He didn't "lose" his daughter, he killed her. There's a subtle, but important, difference. You don't get to play the "oh woe is me" card when you intentionally burn your offspring alive.

Why the long face Stannis?
I lost my daughter this weekend.
Shit, I'm sorry. Did the greyscale finally do her in?
No, I burned her alive.
.... What?
Yeah, torched her at the stake. Made her mother watch.
Jesus fucking Christ.
Yeah, it's been pretty hard.
Did you consider NOT burning her alive?
Yeah, but what are you gonna do? If you want to serve as the King nobody wants, you've got to be willing to go to lengths that nobody supports.
Well, we know why the men supported it:

Let's talk about Lord Tyrell.

Totally different persona. He seemed kind of timid and out of place in Kings Landing. Yet here in Bravos, talking to the Iron bank, he is very confident. He assertively classifies them as gamblers, and when challenged, holds frame... "you are the BEST gamblers"

He also seems quite pleased that High Garden is doing quite well economically. Let's not forget their clout. The Lannisport gold mines are dry, and the crown needs more money... Tyrells could literally be buying their way to the throne via debt.

But, why is he here when his Daughter(grand daughter?) sits in a cell beneath the red keep? Wouldn't you think he would head to KL, or is he just gonna let Oleana Tyrell handle that?

can't take him serious when he looks like the mayor of Munchkin town

ETA: @ Jedi, Ramsay fire killed a lot of the horses in the confusion that Ser Davos mentioned as part of the causalities. Stannis said to butcher them to eat.

Aw Stannis... fuck man... why dosent anything ever go right for you?!?

Lost at Blackwater
Lost Gendry
Losing men/horses/siege weaponry
Lost daughter :'(

S05E10 - Everyone in Winterfell spontaneously combusts and Stannis rides into the city victorious. It will happen, I remain hopeful the one true king shall stand victorious over the broken bones of his enemies in triumph!

wonder how the red witch's god will help stannis w/his immediate problem of no food?
then his longer term problem no horses or siege weapons?

btw- she said she had a vision of her walking around in Winterfell.
she didn't say Stannis was there also.

Im beginning to think her god just want everyone w/king's blood dead so they don't have a claim on the throne.
then she will usurp power and rule on the iron throne in the name of her (evil) god.

the dance of dragons

the gift, pt1
stannis' army displays a total lack of security. 20 assholes ride in and find, then torch, all your food, siege weapons and horses. what the hell? burning animals have been used in warfare for millennia, as recently as vietnam, but stannis' horses seemed to be made of duraflame logs.

castle black
lord snow is not lord popular right about now

the gift, pt2
stannis sends davos away so he can get to the deed without interference. davos knows what's coming and has a touching farewell with shireen. "the dance of dragons" lends itself to the name of the episode, the 5th book, and foreshadows the episode's big finale.

dorne, pt1
prince duran continues to be the steady hand at the wheel. good for him! ellaria sand continues to give us the shae treatment - she's an interesting character, only to collapse into a bitchy annoyance. the slappy game in jail was dumb filler.

braavos
notice how off her game arya was, even before seeing meryn trant. terrible form. know who has great form? lord tyrell. it's like he's an entirely different character. i was just surprised to see him get off the boat alive. the whorehouse scene was about as creepy as it gets, building the expectation that trant will recognize, then fuck arya.

dorne, pt2
the prince gets all don corleone and tells her to kiss the ring. any more bullshit from you and i'm chopping off your damn head.

the gift, pt3
a very sad setup to the sacrifice. stannis always was an asshole, but he's still not an enthusiastic disciple of the god of light - he's just being practical. interesting to see crazy mrs. stannis have a change of heart, although too little too late. such a terrible sacrifice and you just know the god of light is going to be really wishy-washy when it comes time for results. other than that 1 shadow baby, he's all talk.

with a title like "the dance of dragons" you know we end up in...
mereen
i was kind of underwhelmed by the big reveal of the grand fighting pit. it had a star wars-prequel look and feel to it. too much CGI beige. the crowd definitely looked better than a lazy copy/paste job.
anyway, when the man with no name (does ANYONE remember his name?) is late because he's "making sure everything's in order" i would have gone straight to red alert.
i'm not sure it's the actors' fighting ability - are these the same people that made the hound's fights?
ser friendzone throws an absolute strike, picking off the harpy from waaaay downtown. this kicks off a slaughter highlighting another joke acting as imperial security. i guess this just sets up the scene we all knew was coming.

first white walkers, now dragons??? what show is this? you have to expect some dragon action at some point, what i did not expect was danerys climbing on the dragon and just peacing the f outtta there, leaving everyone else hanging. maybe they're throwing the danerys fans a bone there. like has been said before, the next time we see them it will be all "whew, that was a close one!" as they reconvene at the hall of good guys.

What is a random kingsguard to no one? Is a girl no one or is a girl Arya Stark?

The fight coreography has been pretty bad this season, or just bad editting, I can't tell.

 to both

yeah, the choreography sucked in the arena, and in general this season.
as if they were short on $ due to all the cgi and cut out time/effort in choreography.

and the older sand snake sister has a cute face! cuter than the younger sister w/the great tits.

I didnt think much of him, but he had that great moment with his daughter and I came around to thinking he might be alright. But I was reminded that this show is filled with POSs. Pretty much however they were introduced is how they will be until they die. Unless they are top notch POS, then they will continue to live.

Same with me. Hated the guy up through the end of last season. Stannis always seemed like an irrational prick only ever looking out for himself, to the detriment of sound judgement and strategy. Plus that whole "burning people alive really is OK, because religion" thing.

This season, he really was shown as being the only lord out there that actually understood what was going on--the trouble at the wall and the zombie army being the real threat--on top of being bound and determined to murder as many Lannister bastards as possible. Noble and proper goals, both of those. Even when you thought he would toss wee John Snow on the pyre for granting mercy to Mance, thus disobeying "the king," Stannis was like: "You know, that guy has balls. I like balls. Let's work with this guy. fuck yeah." Then the daughter speech...I guess it somehow became easy to forget the whole "Magic 8-bale says to make a human torch. Let's do that!" issue with Stannis.

Well, now he's just another wise and beautiful woman in Westeros. I don't see Davos returning to his side; but Stannis already knew that, which is why he sent him away. As soon as Stannis requested Davos to deliver the message--before he even insisted--I was like, "Aw fuck!"

Dany is a bad ruler but Tyrion is not. In fact, he did a pretty good job advising a much worse ruler who also opposed and ridiculed him at every step. If she listens to him she has a shot at doing a good job.

Which makes me wonder, who the fuck wants to be close to Dany?

Let's stroll through a list of her advisers/friends and where they are today:
Viserys: Crown for a king.
Jorah: banished, dying.
Drogo: :(
Witch who "saved" Drogo: trial by fire.
3 Dothraki chicks: 1-2 killed in Qarth when the dragons were stolen, the traitor was vaulted.
3 Dothraki rider: head cut off, one MIA, one returns and we never really see him again.
Xaro ducksauce: Vaulted.
Barristan: KIA.
Hizdahr: Close but no cigar.
Grey Worm: injured, still around.
Daario: :D
Missandei: doing good.

I mean, statistically, those are terrible odds.

Child sacrifice FTW, although I think I would have preferred they use the Aztec method of cutting out the still beating heart, but WTF. Can't have everything o_O :whiste:

Anyway, this is why you never stick your d*** in the crazy. It tends to rub off.

I always considered Stannis a low-priority character since I never thought he was a real contender for the throne. I thought he was fucking crazy with the religious aspect before. Now I want to see the fucker dead. I think he is going to kill himself at some point, possibly after everyone starves.

I see Melissandre(?) and the "Lord of Light" as being the opposing force to the White Walkers and what I assume is their Lord of Ice. She is trying to build up her side thru Stannis, or if he fails another contender for the Throne. She may be a positive force who just went off the rails with misuing her powers and seeing her ends as justifying any means.

I can see her lasting quite awhile on the show.

Which probably means she dies this week.

Apparent script error: if Stannis' forcer didn't see the saboteurs, only the damage, how did they know to say '20 men' did it?

She's probably immune anyway but I think we are being toyed with, it won't be relevant but they still used the "touch" to distract us.

My prediction: Grilling the daughter pays off, LOL gets Stannis into Winterfell via Melisandre, only to get stabbed by Brienne. Michael will be the last remaining Bolton after the next episode.

Friendzone dies, Arya kills Meryn Trant after posing as the fresh girl Meryn requested in the last episode. The annoying kid at Castle Black tries to kill Jon and fails/succeeds depending on whether Melisandre is there to revive him. Daenerys is getting her dragon control cerfification while Tyrion helps her with finish off harpies and gain the support of the rich.

Jaime fades off in the show unless he is the younger twin. IIRC, Cersei was told she would die at the hand of her baby brother so she always assumed Tyrion. I can see Jamie killing Cersei if she goes after Trystane/Myrcella.

A few seasons ago, Melisandre said Stannis would betray everything he believed in but it would be worth it. The burning of his daughter is how far he has sunk going along with the fire god. But at least he'll take winterfell, if the visions about him being on the ramparts of winterfell are true.

I think they said that "It couldn't have been more than twenty men," which is still a script error because Ramsay + "twenty men" = "more than twenty men."
