I'd be on board for a prequel. The reign of the Targaryens through Robert's Rebellion has enough backstory already written and enough character overlap that it should be successful.

Stupid prequels. Forget that. I'm so sick of friggin prequels. Prequel this prequel that. Let's not try to make up an ending its too hard just use the one we already know.

It has nothing to do with making up an ending and everything to do with character familiarity. Give the fans more Ned, Robert, Tyrion, Tywin, Cersei, Oberyn, etc and they'll watch.

Who cares about this nonsense. That article mentions potential new Deadwood content in the future. The mere suggestion of such blows all this Game of Thrones or True Detective stuff out of the water.

How about Arya and the Hound join forces again and hit the road for some adventures!

How bout they round up the whole gang, go on a long trip past the wall,
then get ambushed by white walkers,
get trapped on a cliff edge,
and then at the last second get saved by giant eagles that takes them all the way to the Night King!

Ooo. I love spinoffs.

Yeah, the most obvious one would be a prequel series.

I dunno, prequel series tend to be rehashes and predictable. And the original series is so long that you probably wouldn't get many new revelations from prequels.

What I would most love to see would be an American Revolution/French Revolution taking ahold of this feudal world and the starts of representative democracy.

There is a lot of material to work with, IMO. There's the short stories GRRM wrote about Dunk & Egg ("A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms") and that "The World of Ice and Fire" book contains a shitton of character and world info. That's not even considering any of the things that were merely mentioned in passing but not explored during the books already written.

Since it's such a successful series and it's coming to an end soon, I think we'll be seeing some spin-off. Hopefully it ain't shit and similar in quality to GoT, and GRRM continues to be involved in it.

In the last 10 years there have been at least a million articles that mention potential new Deadwood content in the future. Ever since the series ended there have been talks about wrapping things up with a movie or two. Then nothing happens. Then a year later talks start again, then nothing happens. Then another year passes and it gets brought up again and then nothing happens. At least with GOT something will probably happen. Strike while the iron is hot, have something greenlit and in production by the time the series wraps so fans can seamlessly transition over to the new series.

The Dunk & Egg stories are GREAT, I honestly look forward to more of these more than Winds of Winter. These would be really cool to see, they are MUCH simpler stories, and I wouldn't really call them prequels as they don't really have anything to do with the SoI&F story (though young Aemon and Bloodraven (3-eyed crow) is in it).

All that said, AFAIK GRRM has said that HBO doesn't have rights to anything but the SoI&F story, so they would need to negotiate.
