Game not using GPU at all possible?

I'm playing this Top Spin 2 game with the following requirements:

"Recommended System:
3D Hardware Accelerator Card Required ? 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible 256 MB with latest drivers
Geforce 6600 or Radeon X800
1024 MB RAM"

The minimum recommended video card is: Video Card: 3D Hardware Accelerator Card Required ? 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible 128 MB with latest drivers"

Supported Chipsets:

ATI Radeon 9800
ATI Radeon X300
ATI Radeon X550
ATI Radeon X600

My video card is a Radeon 9550.
Does the specs mean that it only supports video cards with 9.0c or better?

Here's the problem: when i run it I can only run it in 640x480 with setting at min. and still get some frame rate problems. What I observed is that the CPU is at 100% all time the game is running. Does that mean the GPU is not even used?

I believe that is a direct port of an Xbox game, and therefore probably sucks, just like halo on the PC. I remember trying to run that on a 9800pro at 800*600 and having serious problems.

I know some people can run it fine at 1024 resolution. but have different video card.

Your system looks like it should run the game OK. Are you using the latest ATI drivers? Did you download the latest Microsoft DirectX downloads/updates?

yup, latest catalyst and direct x 9.0c

It does say supported cards 9700 and over but i dont see why my 9550 should'nt be the same as a 9700 except slower and all that.

Well one review of the game says "While the core content itself is still plenty good, this port of an Xbox 360 game is weighed down by stability and performance issues."

Plus the 9550 is going to be a fair chunk slower than the 9700.. the 9700 has 8 pixel pipelines, whereas the 9550 has 4.. the 9550 core does run slightly faster, but not enough to cope with the twice as many pipelines..

So I'd say with a poorly written game, and your slowish hardware...you're not going to get any miracles..

Nope, nothing. It says I already have the newwest DirectX
I guess I'm just hardware limited.
