Game non player characters/mobs flickering.

My problem is as follows. I built a system from the ground up with the following specs:

9800 pro 128/amd 64 bit 3200+ cpu/asus k8v se deluxe/wd 36 gig raptor hdd/enermax 480 watt power supply/benq 17 inch lcd fp 767 monitor/1 gig mushkin (512 x 2) ddr 400/windows xp

First I downloaded the necessary drivers from the supplied disks (mobo/monitor/card). I attempted to play the game (dark age of camelot). While in daoc, the mobs and npcs (not the other gamers) would flicker in and out of existence. My first thought was, great I need to install the 'latest' drivers for this 9800 pro. I tried that , then searched for newer mobo drivers to no avail. I even grabbed my 9500 pro that works in my other machine and put it in this machine. The same problem was present with the 9500 pro that I had with my new 9800 pro card. That made me think that the 9800 pro card might still be okay(as I found out after I put the 9800 pro card in my older machine and encountered no problems with the same game).

I've even downloaded the driver that seems to work with my old machine (amd 2000xp/1 gig ram/80 gig hdd/antec 400 watt power supply) and installed it in this new machine. That did not work. I hate the idea of a reformat on this hard drive as it was a tough one to get win xp on in the first place (sata drive yuck-windows xp did not want to recognize that I had this one).

I also set all the 'settings' in game to the same choice as the computer that works. I set all the display choices to the same. I even looked to see if there were some type of internal conflict. I could not find any. I tried pulling the sound card out of my old computer and placing it in this one. Every time I plugged that card into it's slot and rebooted the computer there was a (unable to find hdd error). This was the same no matter what slot I tried to place that card into.

I am truly at my wits end on this one. I've tried the message boards specific to the game that I play (dark age of camelot). I am posting this here in the hopes that someone else has had a similar problem in some other game if not dark age of camelot.

Please advise.

I'm going to start trying each and every driver from ATI to see if that is the issue.

Could this be an issue with my ram?

You used the drivers off the discs? Did you do any of the Windows Updates? Install Directx 9?

As with all things that seem to go wrong. . . when you finally find the answer out you do a 'palm slapping forehead maneuver.'

I finally did a 'google' search on this issue. I found a note about a black ice defender (firewall) causing the same problem. I decreased the security settings there and voila no problems with flickering whatsoever. I also now have the 2 sec lag time instead of the 15 to 18 second lag I had before.
