why are they still in games, like bf2? it is so easy to get around this it is not even funny. i have a full paid for copy of bf2 and i think it is ridiculous that i have to use "pirate" ways to not need the cd in the optical drive, as i only have 1 of them.

why should i have to do this when it is meant to be cut down on piracy, but it doesn't because you can get around it so easily?

is ea the only comany that does this or is it pretty widespread? i only play fps...

pretty widespread... The only company that doesn't do this anymore to my knowledge is Valve. Some people hate steam but it saves me from using disks and cuts down on pirating a bit.

Its still considered standard on most games. HL2 doesn't have it, but Steam more than makes up for that like the Gestapo it is.

maybe i have been doing this for too long and assumed the knowledge was more widespread :(

i just find it incredibly irritating...

Just like DVDShrinking my DVD's to get rid of stupid adverts in the beginning, I always download the appropriate cracks/patches for new games. I should have to look at the original game discs exactly ONCE until I have to re-install it.

exactly, i hate when i watch a movie and they force me to watch all of their stupid advertisement...i am talking about the movies that won't let you hit the menu button, where it says "this operation is currently not available"...errrrrr p!sses me off. they are not going to sell me anything, period. the sad part with the movies is that most of the actual movies with DD or DTS are ~4.3GB, but they put in an extra 4GB of sh!t, d@mn.

Epic have been doing it for years.
The original Unreal Tournament had a no-CD thing in one of its patches, and UT2004 does not require a CD with patches, if it even ever did. With UT2004 at least, they check your key on the master server, and kick you if it's invalid/a duplicate.
Valve with Steam started doing it a while after Epic.
