first, sorry for my english, im from malaysia.
I just purchased MSI r9 290 Gaming and installed the driver very carefully. My first game I played on that GPU was dota 2 and the game runs lag after 5-10 mins of played but not very worst. first i tought it was my connection problem. Tthen i started to realise last night when I play fifa 14, the game lags after 5 min of playing. the lag was like scratch DVD. I've re-install the driver with DDU, but the problem still occur.

This problem solves by using alt+tab and it smooth for a minute and start to lag again like before. Please help me!

Try a different set of drivers. WHQL that just came out should do justice.

Grab those CCC drivers. Its great specially when you got Interns coding the drivers.

Yep, sounds like a typical overheating/throttling issue which is extremely common with r9 290. If you are running only one card, then you must have either extremely high ambient temperatures, or extremely bad case air flow. I would open up the side panel of the case and point a desk fan towards your computer to improve cooling.

You can also try manually setting the fan speed to 100% in Catalyst Control Center or MSI afterburner and see if that helps.

alt tab will cause temps to go down
get soemthing that records highest temp, gpuz does this

then see how hot it gets

Reinstall the drivers and I suppose you know how to do it properly? You need to start windows in safe mode, uninstall the drivers and then install them afresh.

If you still have problems return the GPU to the store you bought it from and have it replaced.

This might not do anything, bit have you tried it without Afterburner and/or GPUz running in the background? Afterburner used to sometimes cause issues with AMD cards.

What about RAM, HDD, and VRAM usage? Ideally, you should be monitoring every part of your hardware/software you can and saving the results to logs. Speaking of which, when you got those temperature results, were those saved to logs that you checked after gaming, or did you alt-tab to check in-game?

I checked while gaming and after. The temp of gpu and vram both 75-85c. Which software monitoring the usage of vram, ram and hdd?

use taskmanager / performance, apply kernel times and test again, now you'll get nice graphs for all you cpus and red lines for kernel times. Run again and revisit the graphs .. how do the kernel times look? Do they(spikes?) match up against lag frequency?

Some games are just buggy too and have memory leaks, I notice some games will lag after a while unless you alt-tab in-and-out and then the framerate returns to normal.

I'm having the same issue with the only two games I'm currently playing.
StarCraft 2 and BF3.
Temps are in the 60 - 70 range.

I will try re-installing driver.

Can you do a fraps frame time capture? I might spot a pattern based on previous errors like this I have seen.

14.1 did cause stutter; its one of the known bugs; also not wiping out the old driver and just installing over can cause this.

14.2 betas are more stable....:)
