Hi

I play MechWarrior4 and BlackKnight and sometimes host them for the team. I had to set the ports to play online but cant host. Meaning they cant see my server on the list .. even if i tell them the ip they cant connect. Just wondering if any of you know how I can fix this problem.

Thanx in advance

Set up a DMZ host. I think you're unable to serve because you're router's firewall is not letting any traffic in. The DMZ host will allow your computer to get outside of the firewall so that others can connect to it. Hope this helps.

I'm hosting unreal sometimes,
instead of putting a machine to DMZ I enable forwarding of some ports ( depends on game), But DMZ is still much easier.

Telnet into the Rt-314, go 15.) SUA Server Setup, on Line 1 "Default", change the IP Address. Note that this "opens" that IP to the world and basically bypasses the NAT protection.
This is the same as putting the machine in a DMZ, Netgear uses "SUA", Linksys uses "DMZ".
You can also accomplish the same thing by using the routers "browser" interface and going to "Advanced/Ports" line 1

edit: here is a great forum for info on the Netgear routers
