It just occurred to me that game developers are either getting lazy or focusing too much on the graphics and not enough on gameplay. Playing Ninja Gaiden on my new xbox made me realize it. They seem to concentrate so much on the graphics, making it look pretty, that the gameplay often suffers. This is the case with Far Cry as well. Wonderful visuals... but lacking in the gameplay department.
It also seems to me that rather than ad more depth to games, they seem to just make it more difficult so that you're forced to play the same part over and over and over and over again to beat it... apparently that's supposed to ad to the longevity of the game or something.
When you look back to the old days of video games... Mario Brothers... Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles... Techmo Super Bowl... none of those were so stupidly difficult that you were forced to play the exact same thing over and over until you could play the game in your head with the console off, lol.
None of those are graphically stunning by today's standards of course. But I actually enjoying playing Mario Brother's on NES even still... I doubt anybody will be saying that about Far Cry 20 years from now.
So yeah... get with it all you game developers... stop with the shiny water (*smack smack smack*) and focus on gameplay and adding depth to games and produce a future classic.
