Game Creator Software for 11 year old?

My 11 year old son spends tons of time creating maps and such in Starcraft, Gal Battlegrounds, Warcraft, etc. Is there a mostly visual tool he can use to create more than just the maps? To let him do units, weps balance, etc?

He's not ready for a true language (I have a VisC++ book waiting for him when he is), and the developer kit I have for Descent 3 was too esoteric for him.

His birthday is coming up and I'd love to get him something like this...

Thanks in advance!

You should also check out Neverwinter Nights. It comes with the editor, allowing you not only to make your own maps, but to edit the game in just about any way possible. Your own character, their speech, your own weapons, monsters, etc. Its very powerful, and very easy to use. I would highly recommend it!

And a program being too complicated really shouldn't hinder him. When i was 11 or 12, me and my friend were making our own DOOM wad conversions 🙂

I'll check out Neverwinter Nights... I parked him in front of the Dev Kit for Descent 3 and he couldn't get the concepts of 3d modeling. I've had no luck getting him interested in a 3d tool yet either, so I'm stuck there...

His spatial perception in the real world is amazing. You should see the Lego creations he comes up with. I'm still trying to find a way to get him to transfer it to the computer. He didn't like the Lego Creator tools. He'd just build walls and then dynamite them to watch bricks fly. Sigh.

Thanks all for your recommendations!
