Game Crashes

I'm having a problem with a couple of games, particularly "The Longest Journey" and "Halo", in which they are crashing frequently. I did not have this problem with them installed on either XP x64 or x32. The graphics card is not getting hot, nor is it overclocked. I installed the latest patch for TLJ, but it didn't make any difference. Since more than one game is involved, I'm reluctant to reinstall them, because the problem must be somewhere else. The only thing different from before, is that I'm using the 93.71 Nvidia driver, but before trying another, I'm wondering if simply changing some setting might be the cure?
