Description of the crash :

Ok......when a play, the image just freeze and there's no more sound.....ANd the only way to get out of there is to reboot by pressing the reset button on my comp. The first time that it crashed was when i was playin Max Payne...maybe for the 5th time something like that...then i decided to go play madden 2002 that i had been playing for a while (I had already played something like 40 games) and it was always working well but it started to crash....So did nhl 2002.....I reinstalled all those games, downloaded the newest drivers nothing could change it...

PLZ HELP CAUSE THOSE ARE MY FAVORITE GAMES

Not to be a smart ass but I think its your OS.. Win ME sux. If you have 98 go back or if you can upgrade do so.

I don't think windows ME is really the culprit. It's basically win98 with a few "extras" tacked on. I can't really tell you what the problem is, cause I don't know. But, I don't see how you can expect max payne to run at all, keeping in mind you are not meeting the minimum system requirements. Sorry I wasn't help, but I'm wondering if you knew the requirements of max payne before you got it?

Did you install both the newest drivers for your video card and the newest patch for the game?

Make sure you have the latest BIOS and chipset drivers for your system. Also make sure the games are patched to the latest versions and don't overclock anything or tweak your BIOS too aggressively.

How long has it been since the systems was built and how long have have you had the GF2 MX-200 in it?

It sounds video card related but just for kicks, look inside your computer to see if the heatsink on the CPU is really dirty! 😉

I had a similar problem and had trouble pinpointing it and just like you was crashing randomly in every game, one day I just changed my monitor and bang. I haven't crashed since. I'm not saying that's what it is but it can be anything. You seem to have older equipment, heat can be an issue ect....

Bigrash9---I have the new drivers for my hardware......but its true that i didnt installed the game patch....

BFG10K---I have the latest BIOS and chipset drivers......nothing is overclocked....

ObiDon---My computer has 3 and a half years....i have my geforce since 9 months.......the heatsink is ok...

NicColt---Well it's probably not my monitor as not all the games crash.....i dont think heat is an issue as my comp is open and i put a big electric fan beside it....so my comp is always cool.

Dont you guys think it could be related to my sound card????????? I did an error in my post.....actually the sound doesnt stop, it freezes, just like the image....

Your computer is older than my grandmother dude. All the games you listed that dont work, run on new and beefy engines. Your hardware is at fault, no if's and's or buts.

Ok my comp is old but you gotta keep in mind that i changed my video card, added 128mb of ram amd added the 40gig western digital hard drive...Anyway, i will receive a celeron 1ghz this week.......we will see then.....Also bdog 231 you think you are really smart saying all this and i suppose you have an all new comp each six months but how can you explain that madden 2002 had been working incredibly well during over 40 hours of play????????????????????

Wow, we ALL got shot down!

If you're really bored, try forcing 1x AGP speed to see if it makes a difference. It's pretty easy to undo if it doesn't do anything for you.

When I replaced my Voodoo 3 2000 with a GF2 GTS on my Soyo 6BA+IV, I had some strange things happening until I forced AGP 1x. 2D was fine but when I tried to play NFS: PU sometimes it would work fine and sometimes the system would freeze along with a repeating audio clip.

You have the AGP MX-200, right? If you have the PCI version, just shoot me down again 😉

Edit: I couldn't link you directly to the item thanks to the 😀 in the URL so you'll have to search for "force agp1x" on the web page I linked to.

keep in mind that i changed my video card

I assume you removed all traces of your previous video card?

If all else fails the GeForce FAQ will almost certainly contain the solution to your problem.

Thanx for the help ObiDon but that didn't work.....I gave a look at the geforce faq....I'll try some of the things listed there....

what did you install that caused Madden to not work? If all else fails you can always back up the data that you need and reformat the hardisk. Also, after you addded the ram, are the two types compatable? (like you didn't put a pc 133 with a pc 100 ram) If the games stopped working after you installed the ram i'm thinking its a conflict.

But if it boots up fine... 😕

also download the newest drivers for the graphix card, that might fix the problem with half-life. (if you use direct3d rendering it'll help out a bit if you're currently using OpenGL)
