Dear anandtech'ers wsup!,

Im planning on building a new gaming rig, and i would appreciate some advice from some ICT techs or cool ppl ofc😀 ( ive read alot on topics the forum and i know there are some brilliant people here )
Excuse me if i forgot the questions, ill fill you in with all the details!

PC will mainly be used for : gaming
Budget : 1100-1500 euro
Buying from : Belgium,Netherlands, maybe Germany or UK ( no exp in last 2,only if parts are not available in BE/NL)
No brand preference , just following the hype usually ( +1 for intel tho )
Overclocking: Not to heavy, just what i can get with the parts i provided below ( scyte2mugen )
Resolution : Mainscreen : 1920x1080@120HZ , for triple i do not now since they are different sized ( 1x22 2x23 on 60 hz then )
Building it as soon the parts are delived, been thinking about buying one for months. But haswell yeah.
No software required.

PC that im currently using :
- Q9300 OC @ 3.26 GHZ / 5750 ATI GFX Card / 4GB ram

Hardware that im gonna keep on using :
- Crucial M4 SSD, Steelseries 6vg2,Razer Deathadder, Logitech G35 headset,
- 2 monitors, 1 ASUS VG236 @ 120HZ ( 1900x1080 ) and a Samsung Syncmaster 2343 w @60hz (1600x1200 max )
- Im gonna play following games : WoW,BF3,GW2,D3,CSS etc.

I was thinking about waiting for "Haswell" toch tech. but im not sure of it ; from Q9300 to an Ivy bridge 3570K is maybe not that huge of an upgrade.
You dont have to go in detail for this but like one short opinion would be much appreciated because the following questions are more imporant 😀

Game PC Specs what im thinking of :

Harddisks Seagate Barracude 2TB 7200 RPM (M4 ssd)
DVD: Sony Optiard
Tower :Corsair Carbide 500R Black
Koeler : Scythe Mugen 2Rev.B
GFX : Asus GTX680-2GD5
Processor : I5 3570k boxed
Psupply : Corsair enthuasiast TX550 !
RAM : Corsair Vengeance 16GB low profile
soundcard : no dont gonna spend money on that right now
MOBO: Asrock Z77 Extreme4 :
a) steelseries 6gv2 works on combi PS/2 ports normally, if not dont be scared to correct me.

1) Yes i prefer 16Gb, i usually run WoW/D3beta(or similar) FB and youtube etc all at the same then, and also to be future proof i prefer it this way. If you think different on this , please reply.

2) Im thinking about getting the Asus model of the GTX680 or would you guys recommend a different one ? ( not spending more then 50 euro more for that)

3) If the GTX680 is lower on price in lets say half a year, is there a need for more POWA then 550V?

Things i already googled which i think i am correctly informed about
---------------------------------------------------------------------
- Crucial M4 0009 Firmware update on the Z77 board should be easy aswell,CDboot AND doing this after the installation of Windows.
- Both drivers are best connected through the SATA 600 ports.

Triple Monitor Setup for the GTX680
-------------------------------------
Im thinking about getting a 3rd monitor for the Triple setup , either :
- Dell Ultrasharp U2312HM (Zwart) 180 euro+-
- BenQ G2420HD 24 inch Widescreen LCD Monitor 155 euro but harder to get

1) Anyone owned either of these or has knowlegde about them?
2) GPU Scaling is only for an SLI setup ( true? )
3) Vsync on the 120HZ screen is recommended if you get a steady 120 FPS and then turn it ON. ( true/false? )

4) I usually run WoW on the 120HZ screen and the other stuff on the 60hz, i heard with the triple setup it is recommended to put them all on 60hz for smoothness. ( true/false? )

Connection cable's
--------------------
Should i connected them as followed : 2 monitors on DVI at the 60 hz and 1 x HDMI1.4
OR should i go for : 2x DVI and 1 converter from DVI ( start@screen) to Displayport ( into the GTX680? )

Thats about it. I would like to thank everyone who takes an effort to read and or answer some of these questions. It would mean the world to me.

Thanks in advance.

greetings Thijs.

Haxil, there are some questions in [thread=80121]this thread[/thread] that you haven't answered yet, from what I can tell. Like, what's your budget?

Get 8gb I highly doubt you will get anywhere near maxing out 16gb and you always have the option of putting 8gb more in there in the future as long as you go 2 x 4gb not 4 x 2gb

Get Red Cherry MX keys for your mechanical Keyboard. I gamed with a 6Gv2 and it got tiring after a while. I double tap constantly to dodge in Unreal Tournament III. I actually swapped out my main rig's kb from a MS ergo keyboard to the 6Gv2, it's nice to type on. And currently I'm using the Corsair K60 for my gaming machine

I agree. Also, a GTX 680 would be ridiculous overkill for Diablo III and WoW.

Also agree. The Cherry Blue and Brown keyswitches are great for typing (love the Browns in my Das). For a mixed-use keyboard the Reds are pretty decent, but you really want a keyboard with Cherry Blacks for a pure gaming machine..

Thank you for your input, but i mean that i usually run them simultaneously, Either WoW on the background or D3 back then, and always have skype on so i think the 16gb would be nicer no? And uhm for the keyboard i dont have any problems with it atm but ill keep that in mind!
If something comes to mind or info about the other questions, would be appreciated aswell.

Thank you

Could you explain how it makes a difference for gaming whether they're browns or blacks or reds?

I was well aware what you mean't and the answer is still no, you don't need/will not see more than 8gb of RAM used (I doubt you will see over 4or5gb used) with the tasks you are describing. I know 16gb sounds cool but you really need to be doing very specific things to use more than 8gb of RAM and you haven't mentioned any of them yet.

I 100% disagree as the current Windows 8 Builds look like they will require a good bit of extra ram.

Could you explain how it makes a difference for gaming whether they're browns or blacks or reds?

It's just personal preference. For me, I constantly double tap for dodging and jumping in UT3. The dodging also helps you get places a little faster than running. Kinda like how running with a knife in CS makes your character run faster. Jumping doesn't require faster double taps but none-the less double jumping is an option. So in my particular scenario, with the Cherry MX Black switches, and my particular game, the Black keys would tire me out within an hour. They are 60g actuation forced keys. This will help better explain things. ... so now I am partial to the Cherry MX Red switches

The link that BTRY B provided gives a good overview and these diagrams explain it even better. Basically, the Blues and Browns have a large "hump" in the force curve near their actuation point, which is what gives them a distinct break. The Reds and Blacks on the other hand have a straight force curve, with no differentiation at the actuation point.

The lack of a break makes it harder to tell when the key has actuated, but also allows you to bounce the key much faster when you've gotten a good feel for where exactly the break point is. Bouncing keys is not important in normal typing, but can be make-or-break in some games.

Ah, thanks. Based on that, I think I'd easily notice a difference in fast paced FPS between my current nonmechanical keyboard and one with cherry blacks/reds. I sometimes have the issue that when I attempt to tap a key in quick succession, I end up just pressing it down once, or the second tap comes way later than it should. Didn't realize that it could be due to the switches. Now I'm just looking forward to eventually buying a mechanical keyboard...

Care to back this up with some proof?

On a side note I heard in 2090 you will need 1080GB of RAM for windows 27, should I upgrade to 1080GB of RAM now or do you think I will be ok to wait a while.

 And so it begins.

Muahahaha
