Gambling Problem: Where to get help?

A person who has had a gambling problem for a long time, finally hit bottom and is kinda looking to me for help. Where is a good place for a person to get help for gambling?

I tried gamblers anonymous and there are none available in the area.

I really have no idea where to look so even a point in a general direction would be helpful.

This person also has a problem with depression.

Thanks.

Bet them 1000 dollars that they can't quit. It gives them some action, and gamblers hate to lose, so that should have them tied up for the foreseeable future.

FTW!

What's there game? How much are they down?

I'm a gambler, but I win... ergo, I don't have a problem. I'm not sure of any resources for gambling addicts. Check w/ there uni maybe?

Edit: They need to see a shrink and deal with the depression. That's the real problem here.

there's a few hotlines (where you pick up the phone and call) out there, just look them up.

They should be able to find the resources you're (err, I mean your friend) are looking for.

Hahaha, I could totally see that working for a period of time.

If you work for a large organization or government entity, consult HR. Usually it's confidential, and obviously that's what you want. They can at least point you in the right direction. I work for government right now, and worked for a large private org before, and both places had third-party places outside the company that were paid for mostly by insurance that could help folks. It costs almost nothing. I would do a little research first to ensure the confidentiality, obviously.

I succombed to my demon, swallowed my pride, and did that a few months back for alcohol. I'm in recovery, and while it's not easy, it probably has saved my job and my life.

Good luck.

This is almost painfully obvious, but the person you speak of is you.

Most decent rehab clinics have help for gamblers.

See if there are support groups for friends/family members of gamblers. You might be able to go there an learn how to help your friend and also where to get him some help. If he has the money (which he probably doesn't since hes a gambler) he might try some therapy
