I submitted 6 photos to a competition in Denver, and I just got the call that I was accepted. I am going down there tomorrow for the opening and awards.

I submitted in Landscape, Portrait, and Black & White categories.

Should be cool :) Interested to see what else is showing.

Update:

I won!! :D

I won Best Portrait for that category. I had 4 out of 6 images chosen - two landscapes and a Black & White. I will post a gallery, but you've probably seen most already :)

Photos are not online at this point.

I will have to post them up at a later time.

I don't think all 6 were accepted (2 per category) - they didn't have a lot of room so they may only pick the best of the 2...won't know til I get there tomorrow.

Here are the images submitted:

Black & White #1

Black & White #2 (Not In Show)

Landscape #1

Landscape #2

Portait #1 - Won Best Portait

Portrait #2 - (Not In Show)

One of the people who works there told me they asked the juror why he didn't include the second portrait - and pretty much was he didn't like wedding pictures. But all the staff really liked it. You don't always know who is going to be the juror for shows either otherwise sometimes you can play towards their likes. Still was an interesting experience. This is actually the first gallery I've done, and it just makes me want to do more.

Nice work! I like your final edit on the winning portrait. Looks like you took my advice. :)

Not even sure what you suggested lol. The one I originally posted was an old edit from when it was first taken.

I reprocessed everything older before I submitted. I think you were talking about darkening the column, which I did differently in the final.

Congrats on your conquest! :D

I think portrait #2 is absolutely wonderful, and I'm not a big fan of wedding portraits, either. But, how the judge could have overlooked the elegance, the clean, simple lines is beyond me.

Thanks :)

Judges can be picky and often favor things that are more towards their style, so sometimes if you know who the judge is you can play to that. I'm just happy I won something.

But yeah I wouldn't enter just any wedding portrait into a showing (other than one for weddings specifically) but it's one of my favorite portaits - it just happens to be a bridal shot.

Congratulations! I really like that first black and white.

Where did you take those outdoor shots? I just picked up my first DSLR and wanted to get outside with it before the weather gets bad (heh, if this weekend is any indicator I'm too late). I've spent far too much time at Horsetooth lake to want to go there again.

The first B&W is Maroon Bells. The second is Yosemite Falls.

First landscape is Death Valley. The second is Dream Lake.
