This has the second of two expansions included.

Funny when I googled for the second expansion to check it out, the first link was a 'download it for free' link, perhaps some piracy sight. So much for hating DRM.

The second expansion is described as adding a lot, but can't find a review. I got it.

I think they've had this CD at Target as a value buy for a long time now for under $10.

Check the PC gaming section (which at my Target is probably the biggest in town for any B&M store).

+1

The inability to use keys from Impulse on Steam is a bit of a ball drop I think. It frustrates me a tad.

I just recently bought Sins of a Solar Empire, and played Galciv before that (same company), but don't remember much about it.

Is it worth it to buy Galciv if you have Sins? I know they play differently, but was wondering if someone that plays both could chime in.

Two completely different games. GalCiv plays like Civilization (turn-based). Sins is a RTS. The mechanics of the games are quite different.

That said, I like both. If you want to take your time, you can play GalCiv. If you want to sit and play for 1-6 hours at a time, Sins works.

I bought gal civ II a long time ago and the twilight of the anor expansion maybe 1-2 years ago. Haven't played it too much but the ~5 games I have had have been a blast. It is a great game to play when you have no internet and a lot of time to kill :)

Sins is completely different. It's like comparing starcraft to civilization. very different.

There is a learning curve too which I still haven't completely mastered (although I have not played it too too much).

This was my problem with GalCivII. I really liked the premise, and their attention to detail (e.g., I could get lost building/designing ships for hours, never mind actually trying to win missions), but it takes FOREVER to play it.

yeah, very different games. I never could get into GalCiv, though, after several tries.

Granted, it took me at least a year to finally get into Sins, but once I figured out how to handle pirates and build balanced fleets, I was hooked.

I, too, am quite bummed that I can't migrate my Stardock games over to Steam. I really would like to dump all mention of Impulse from my system.

...

And this happens barely a month and a half after I bought it on Impulse exactly because it wasn't on Steam, just fantastic.

I bought GalCiv2 on Impulse a while ago, but it got lost in the ether due to some weird Stardock/Impulse account issues. I had a Stardock account from before they even had Impulse. I used this account for a while after Impulse's release before forgetting all about Impulse. Later on, I created a new account and somehow managed to get *something* screwed up with them so that game keys would show on Stardocks' website under my new account but not in Impulse. My old account wouldn't log into Impulse anymore and the password resets wouldn't take, either on the Stardock website or in Impulse. I went back and forth with support for a while and got most stuff straightened out and transfered, but not GalCiv2 and one or two other games.

Fast foward to today and I say "meh" and buy it on Steam since I really wanted to play it but never got the chance. Lo and behold it needs 3rd party registration and won't register with my Impulse account, indicating it doesn't exist even though I was just logged into Impulse. So I use my old Stardock account that no longer worked in Impulse (as it specifically mentions Stardock) and boom, one registered game.

Kinda puts me off from using Impulse or buying Stardock games in the future. Though at the rate they've been bumbling releases, I probably won't have to worry about that.

EDIT: Speaking specifically about GC2, I really do enjoy it. I kinda miss a few things here and there from other 4X'ers of the past, but it fills a good niche until/if someone else comes out with a different game in the 4X genre. There was one other I was looking at, but didn't want to pay full price. Speaking of which, I also need to get some time in SWOTS.

I could never get into this game. It's just so slow and full of what seems to be pointless decisions sort of like MOO3. It's not garbage by any means, I just don't find it fun at all.
