I can't seem to find specific info in regards to installing android OS's in the future.
Like say eventually Android 4.0 comes and i want to install that on the Galaxy tab that comes out soon...will i beable to?
or am i forever stuck with whatever Samsung allows me to upgrade to? which will probably end at 3.0 i assume.a

i don't really want to end up with a useless device in 2 yrs like i have with my PDA Axim 51v. a decent little touch device but mostly useless due to aged OS and non supported software

Nothing you buy today is guaranteed to be supported later on by any company. Even if they don't update it, it won't be useless at all. Android is very different than your Axim.

when i buy gadgets, I choose one that has features I'm happy with today. that way anything in the future is just icing on the cake.

Is this a serious question? This is a tablet made by Samsung. That is all you need to know about official upgradeability.

Ignore the iTroll.

Samsung has announced that they'll put Gingerbread on it. Beyond that... who knows?

I dont mean supported by samsung, i know they wont support it forever... i just meant can i install a future android OS...kinda like i can instally any OS on my laptop, i can go from XP to W7 just from buying another OS..... or are they locked down?
I know my old PDA, its impossible to install anything like android or even upgrade to another windows mobile...i dont see why i couldnt just purchase a newer windows mobile and install it. Why lock down the small devices and not Netbooks?

what made you think i know anything about samsung? i know they make TV's i think and probably other electronics. I'm not an investor for crying out loud.

yeah it has windows mobile 5...which is not supported by anyone now. They now have WM7, i wouldnt mind purchasing it for my Axim but not an option....so as far as i can tell, Android may very well end up being the same difference?
