I guess it depends on what you plan on doing with it, but If I buy a tablet anytime soon it'll be black-friday and/or fire sale unit....
 
I have the original 7" galaxy tab, and it's perfect for browsing the web/reading e-mail & there are a few apps that are good supplements to using the browser, (read: facebook, engadget, random forums, etc) which is all I expect w/ a 7" tab. If you are planning to perform any productive (ie work) tasks on a tablet, get a 10" screen.
 
I just pre-ordered the Fire. If it stinks I will get the Galaxy 5 MP3 player and root it. Dont really need a big phone these days. Nor do I need a full size tablet. I think a small inexpensive tablet is exactly what I want. They arent close to being computer replacements yet, so theres no reason to throw away lots of money on an in-between device that has limited function.
