They will not give the $200 for an outright purchase, only an activation on a plan. I tried.

The ad says all three, but ads aren't always correct.

I think it's because only Sprint and Verizon will still let you do 2 yr contracts if you're on an older plan. Hence, $200 subsidized - $200 = 'free' (or $1). I don't think AT&T lets you do 2 yr contracts at all anymore.

If you must finance the phone @ full price (with all the current finance plans), you still get the $200 card. Take your pick -- AT&T NEXT, Sprint Easy Pay, or Verizon DPP

Note that depending on your plan, it's actually much cheaper financing the phone @ full price (vs getting a 2 yr contract w/ a subsidized phone) due to the Smartphone Line Access fee, which varies depending on your account type and plan. The cheapest/most economical is if you have the current AT&T Mobile Share Plan (10GB and up) or older Verizon More Everything plan (6GB and up), which puts your SLA @ $15/month for each plan.

So if you're grandfathered on unlimited with Verizon and not on contract, you could re-up on a contract and get an S7 for $1?

I don't understand the bad talk about verizon. They develop an entire advertisement campaign about how they value their service as the best and expect customers to pay more for it. You' don't like it then leave.

I figured - I had hoped they re-allowed it given the recent $20/month grandathered/F-You tax they added recently.

Nope. You know what that $20 F-You cost did?

Before: $30 UDP
  • Use various loopholes to buy a phone @ subsidized cost, such as $200 iPhone
  • Not allowed to finance a phone @ full cost (DPP)

Now: $50 UDP (+$20)
  • No more (probably) loopholes to buy a phone @ subsidized cost
  • Now you're allowed to finance a phone @ full cost (DPP), such as $650 iPhone

I mean, wow, TY Verizon, for raising prices AND letting us finance a phone @ full price.

Nope, that is just them saying F you get off this plan we wish we never sold to you.

A bigger F-You for them letting us 'graciously' finance a phone @ full price
