Hey everyone, I have a ~1 month old galaxy s5. I dropped it on the street (it was in a hard shell case) and it worked for a few days but now won't boot up. I get a garbled screen, a start up sound, and then the verizon logo but then it shuts off.

Obviously its my fault for dropping it, but I'm pretty shocked that it is broken so easily even with a case on. Could I use the warranty in this case? I do have Verizon Asurion insurance as well...

--edit actually its 'total equipment coverage' from Verizon, but I purchased the phone at Best Buy. Anyone know if that makes a difference? It also turned on properly just now, but who knows how long this will last.

Ideas?

Warranties almost never cover user inflicted damage so if you dropped it that likely will not be covered. Your insurance would cover the damage though.

Your deductible is going to be $200 unless they changed it.

If there's no physical damage you can probably get warranty service on it.

This. If it was in a case and doesn't show any physical damage like cracks, chips, or obvious scuffs, bring it to verizon and reproduce the issue. Otherwise you have to pay the insurance deductible.
